Mesmer | Classes Guild Wars 2 Guide
Last update: 11 May 2016
Master of illusions and retreats. Mesmer is one of the most difficult heroes to catch and master in the mage. During the combat he uses clones and phantasms to confuse enemies and then he weakens him and slowly drains his life. Mesmer has an access to few powerful shatter skills which let him destroy the clones for the defined effect:
- Mind Wrack - causes huge area damage. Thanks to the small recharge time, you can attack multiple times in the encounter.
- Cry of Frustration - causes medium area damage and confusion on enemies, thanks to which every attack will cause damage.
- Diversion - dazes nearest enemies. It's used mostly during retreats.
- Distortion - it let mesmer to avoid all attacks. It's the last chance ability to run away from death.
Mesmer has many weapons to choose, both melee and ranged. Thanks to the big mobility and creating illusions, he is able to hurt an enemy from the distance and finish him off with the sword and then retreat to the safe place.
As every class, mesmer has an access to few skills:
Group | Effect |
Clones | Creates clones. |
Glamours | Creates a zone which supports allies. |
Manipulations | Spells making the retreat easier. |
Mantras | Strong spells which have to be prepared before use. |
Phantasms | Creates phantasms who attacks enemies. |
PvE requires big knowledge and orientation in the situation. While playing solo, mesmer should use the greatsword for distance damage and then change weapon to finish off the enemy. In the group your task is much simpler, it's enough to attack from the distance and creates illusions to make a chaos.
Where PvE is problematic, PvP seems to be a natural mesmer's mode. Giving and canceling statuses, confusing enemies or teleporting whole armies is a normal thing for him. Moreover, it's the hero who is hard to be eliminated thanks to it illusions and retreat skills.
