Elementalist is a hero draining its power from four elements: fire, water, air and earth - Elementalist - Classes - Guild Wars 2 - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Elementalist is a hero draining its power from four elements: fire, water, air and earth. Although he hasn't an access to many weapons, he has various attacks: every weapon he uses, may derives from any available element, which multiplies four times the number of available skills. Depending on the currently used element, the use of your spells changes:

  • Fire - direct fight with enemies, good to incinerate both single enemy and the big groups. Most of used attacks may burn the opponent.
  • Water - it's commonly used to buffing hero and his allies. It let you heal and dismiss the negative effects. Besides, water has some offensive skills which, for example, let you freeze enemies.
  • Air - focuses on single enemies. Additional spells may blind, daze or push the enemy out.
  • Earth - although it's not very impressive, it's very effectiveness. Force field, temporarily indestructibility, immobilizing enemies: those are the main powers.

What is more, a proper choice of weapon defines if you'll be attacking single enemy or whole groups. Elementalist armed with staff will hold off an army, while using the dagger will finish off the enemy's boss quickly.

Weapon skills are additionally supported by the slot skills:

Group

Effect

Arcanes

Spells don't using the elemental magic to cause damage.

Auras

Defensive spells and buffs.

Cantrips

Spells useful for retreat.

Conjures

Spells for summoning a magic weapon.

Glyphs

Glyphs giving various bonuses.

Elementalist's value in PvE is an ability to switch quickly between different elements, what gives him new skills. He can heal himself and allies, then weak an enemy and return to using offensive spells. When you're playing single, it's worth to have a focus with you for some defensive spells. With friends you can stay with a staff and distance damage.

In PvP or WvW you have to decide about your role. Staff and fire magic allow you to fight on a distance while water magic makes you a team's support. During battles with small groups of enemies, you can use earth and air magic to control the combat by immobilizing or pushing enemies out.
