Coast Cliffside is the third level in the game Gloomwood. Our walkthrough describes the main path along the cliffside. You will learn how to reach the lighthouse, how to avoid sentries, how to pass the tavern and how to get the shotgun.

Coast Cliffside is the third stage in Gloomwood, the walkthrough of which you'll find below. This page describes how to safely reach the lighthouse. We explain how to deal with enemies, how to find unique loot (including a shotgun), how to unlock shortcuts and explore the building next to the lighthouse.

Leaving the mines

You'll reach the Coast Cliffside after leaving the caverns explored during the Coast Caves stage, described on the previous page of our walkthrough.

Immediately after leaving the mines you'll find a Phonograph - use it to save your progress. You'll also find a Raw Gem (Small) and some ammo. You can slide downhill or jump down to lower ledges.

Optional step - unlocking the shortcut to Croup's Fishery

You'll reach a path next to the cliff. The left path leads towards the lighthouse (your destination), but the right path is worth checking as well. It leads to the barricade you had to bypass while making your way through the mines.

There's a boat with ammo nearby, as well as a small cave entrance to the right (pictured above).

The game will once again load the Croup's Fishery area. You'll be in a cave - you can open the gate from this side to unlock a shortcut. Reaching the well and climbing the rope will take you back to the hut where the second Phonograph is. Use this shortcut to return to previously visited areas if the need arises.

You'll also find two kinds of silenced pistol ammo nearby.

Reaching the Slaughtered Goat tavern

Return to the Coast Cliffside and go down the left path. Be careful once you reach the house near the cliff pictured above, as:

1. There's a guard on the upper floor. He'll occasionally look out through windows and can easily spot you. Try not to be out in the open when he's looking.
2. There are at least two guards around the building. One of them patrols the area and carries the Coast Desolated House Key which grants you access to the house's upper floor.

Obtaining the key lets you explore the building if you wish to. Use the key to unlock the staircase and backstab the guard.

You can examine the document as well as climb up on the roof and jump in through the hole in the lower roof (pictured above). In the new part of the building you'll find revolver ammo and the basement entrance - there's gold and shotgun ammo there.

On the main path you'll encounter two more guards. The path leads to a damaged bridge - you must find a different way forward. Don't try jumping across, you won't make it. You can attack the guards if you want to - next to the toppled cart you'll find a chest with medicine and some gold (one of the enemies is carrying a gold pouch as well).

Go down the bottom path pictured above. Watch out for the torch-wielding enemy patroling the area. Start following him once he turns around and starts walking away.

Turn left at the earliest opportunity, then bypass or eliminate the second torch-wielding guard (there's a shadow nearby you can hide in).

Watch out for the traps on the ground in the next area - we've pictured one of them above. Move slowly and carefully, you don't want to step into one of them. Interact with the traps to disarm them.

On your way you'll see a new building holding at least three enemies. We recommend trying to get in there - stand somewhere off to the side to backstab the patrolling enemy or sneak in through the basement.

Inside there's a ladder leading to the attic, where you'll find a Phonograph, letting you save your progress. You'll find some more ammo as well.

The tavern is at the top of the hill, the road leading there being full of turns. Unfortunately, you'll encounter more guards along the way. You can kill at least one by shooting the red barrel, but it will alert everyone else.

There are also no good hiding spaces on the way up (hiding behind the cart doesn't guarantee the guards won't spot you). You must wait for the enemies to start moving away from you. This should let you sneak up on them and backstab them.

There are two guards in front of the Slaughtered Goat tavern - you can eavesdrop on their conversation but you don't need to attack them.

Examine the table on the left - you'll find a Shotgun (it takes up four horizontal inventory spaces), ammo, medicine and the Slaughtered Goat Cellar Key.

The cellar entrance is to the left of the guards, as pictured above. There's a massacred corpse there. You'll learn about a monster dwelling on the upper floor. Find the exit door.

Reaching the lighthouse

The passageway in the tavern's cellar leads to some more caves. Follow the main path and examine the left gate - you'll reach a Phonograph area, letting you save your progress.

Near the phonograph is shotgun and silenced pistol ammo. You can also keep going down. Eventually you'll be able to lower a rope and climb even further down. You'll find some gold and revolver ammo.

The main passage is to the right of the Phonograph area. Follow the new path along the cliff and watch out for a nearby guard.

You'll reach a gate with a guard standing over it. He has a large field of view, but there are bottles nearby you can throw to distract him. This should let you keep moving (you'll open the gate later, from the other side).

The main path will lead you to a smaller locked gate. Watch out for enemies from the nearby camp and ruins.

1. There are two ways forward, the easier of which is to jump down onto the right path next to the cliff to bypass the blockade (picture 1). Watch out for traps along the way - using the lantern is risky, but could be worth it if it lets you spot them.
2. The more difficult way is climbing to the higher floor of the ruins. You'll have to bypass or eliminate at least one enemy and find a table with the Cliff Wall Padlock Key (picture 2). You'll also find some coins and ammo.

The final part of your trek requires you to jump over small gaps. Move at full speed and hold down the SPACE key as you jump to make sure you'll grab on to the ledges. You'll reach the base of the lighthouse.

Examining the building next to the lighthouse

Examine the building next to the lighthouse. There's another Phonograph inside. Next to it you'll find a note and listen to a recording aside from just saving your progress.

The left door leads to the lighthouse, but unfortunately its upper level is grated off, which means you won't be able to fully climb up the stairs.

Explore the building's basement by going down the staircase. You'll find a note with a combination (415) to the safe from the cave next to Croup's Fishery. If you haven't explored the cave yet (we've included it in our walkthrough) you can use the shortcut to the fishing village described above. There's some medicine here too.

You can find a switch and a room with a mirror - approaching it triggers a monologue.

The main storyline in the September 2022 Early Access version cuts off here. The game will let you know you've reached the end.

You don't have to quit yet, you can keep exploring the world and discover previously missed secrets. You can also still return to the previous phonographs and save your progress with them.

Reaching the shopping district

There is a secret switch in the building's basement, hidden behind the books on a shelf pictured above.

Using the switch moves the shelf and unlocks a secret elevator. You can enter it to go down.

The path it takes you to leads to the back of the huge gate you've passed by before. Remember there's a guard on the upper level, so you still have to be sneaky. Find a switch to open the gate and unlock a new shortcut.

Your new distination are the city gates leading to the Market District. There are a few guards nearby. You can avoid them, distract them by throwing bottles or kill them (you can dispatch at least one of them by shooting the red barrels).

The city is not available during the September 2022 Early Access version. You can only look around outside the city walls. There's some loot there, including an ammo box and a document attached to the main gate, listing the game's backers.
