Frostpunk 2, like many other city builders, offers several different game modes. Here, you will learn what game modes you can expect in the new game from 11 Bit Studios and what they offer.
Story
Story is the basic mode in Frostpunk 2, which is a story-driven campaign consisting of several chapters. During it, a series of tasks will be set for the player to complete, usually within a specified time frame.
Story is a good place to start. The first missions act as a tutorial, smoothly introducing new players to numerous gameplay mechanics and their mutual relationships. Those looking for challenges can try their hand at the campaign on one of the higher difficulty levels (more on this topic can be found on a separate guide page).
Utopia builder
The second mode is the sandbox Utopia builder. In it, you will choose one of seven different locations and then adjust the game conditions. Among the variables you can choose:
- Ambition - the target goal of the scenario, such as collecting a large amount of resources or reaching a specific number of citizens.
- Community - the starting social groups that make up your city.
- Difficulty level - defines the challenge.
The first two aspects can be set as random. Those seeking challenges can also activate a special Survival Mode, in which there is no access to active pause, and progress is only saved when exiting the game.
Additionally, after experiencing the true end of the leader's reign, you can activate Endless mode in Settings (General tab). It removes the time limit for a single game of Utopia builder and allows for unrestricted city development.
