Chapter 3 in Frostpunk 2 is very short. You have only one goal - to find the ruins of Winterhome and establish a colony there. However, this is a process that requires a significant amount of resources and a well-functioning city, which you have to rebuild after a catastrophic whiteout. On this page of the guide we have described where to find Winterhome and how to prepare for colonization.
Chapter 3 tips
- The chapter will begin with you trying to recover after the whiteout. You should have a lot of Heatstamps that were stored during that storm - give them to communities and factions to increase relationships and trust. Make promises, do everything to keep trust above zero.
- Once you have secured your hold on power, your next task will be to rebuild the economy by dealing with the problems the whiteout has caused. The temperature will be slightly higher, so you have more room for maneuver. Develop the city according to your believes, while trying to ally with a faction that shares your views.
- Start exploring the Frostlands again. Finding spots for outposts will allow you to meet the city's most pressing needs. If you have an abundance of a certain resource, you may not need to establish another outpost supplying it, saving the deposit for later.
- The ruins of Winterhome can be found in the Cursed Valley in the Frostlands, near New London. You can explore the area, but under no circumstances should you establish a colony there right away - you must be ready for the challenge.
- Before you set off to Winterhome, we recommend strongly developing the city - have an increase in all resources and full warehouses, a lot of workforce, at least neutral relations with all factions and an almost completely finished research tree. Once you set off for Winterhome, there's no turning back - you won't have a moment to catch your breath until the end of the game. You have a limited amount of time to achieve your goal in Winterhome, you will inevitably turn one of the factions against you, you need to send a lot of resources to successfully complete actions in the ruins, and completing the mission immediately leads to the final chapter of the campaign.
How to get to Winterhome?
You will not encounter any extreme challenges in chapter 3. That doesn't mean you can take a breather - the entire chapter consists of rebuilding after the whiteout and preparing to colonize Winterhome. Your priority should be to solve the problems caused by the blizzard - increase your relations with factions using bribes and promises, and make buildings that will solve the problems the city is currently facing (e.g. diseases and crime).
After the blizzard, your city may suffer from a shortage of resources. Frostland outposts will prove very useful - they provide a huge increase in resources until they are depleted.
Chapter 3 is very open and each player will build their city differently. We recommend maintaining high relations with your preferred faction and expanding in the direction of your choice. The sole purpose of the chapter is to establish a colony in Winterhome - the ruins can be found in the Cursed Valley in the Frostlands near New London.
Be prepared before you head to Winterhome - treat this as a point of no return. Chapter 3 is the last chapter in which you can relatively calmly develop the city without worrying about whiteouts and time limits. Before sending colonists into the ruins, make sure you have a steady flow of resources, plenty of workforce, enough resources in warehouses, decent relations with communities, decent trust, minimal problems in the city, and an almost fully completed research tree. Chapter four is a race against time, during which you have to act quickly and send huge amounts of resources to the colony.
