Character Development | Tips Guide The Evil Within 2
Last update: 10 January 2018
Upgrading the main protagonist of The Evil Within 2 is essential - you can improve Sebastian's health, his knife and weapon skills, or even unlock new abilities, e.g. a chance to duck automatically after an enemy attack.
Leveling your character
You use Green Gel to upgrade your skills. You can obtain it by eliminating enemies, and each time you kill an opponent, a "pile" of Green Gel will be dropped. The amount of the substance depends on the enemy - killing a random undead will only give you several hundred points, while defeating a boss can add 5000 points in one go.
Once you have enough Green Gel, use any of the available mirrors to reach the police station, and find an armchair at the end of one of the corridors. Sit in it, and you will be able to upgrade your character. There are 5 available categories:
- Health - these upgrades allow you to increase your health bar.
- Athleticism - these upgrades will improve your mobility. You can increase your maximum sprint time or make Sebastian run faster.
- Recovery - use these upgrades to improve your health recovery - both automatic recovery and one with the use of medical supplies.
- Stealth - this category focuses on skills related to stealth. This includes increasing knife damage and making your protagonist move more silently.
- Combat - these upgrades affect weapons, e.g. you can reduce recoil.
Tips on how to level your character
Although you can upgrade any of the available skills, it's good to plan how to do it. If you are not sure which skills are worth your attention, stick to the following rules:
- Spend some points on your health bar (Health category) - you will be able to survive longer and withstand certain attacks.
- Regardless of your gameplay, you should upgrade skills from the Stealth group. You should draw your attention to the skills that allow you to move faster while sneaking around. Performing stealth kills will be much easier.
- We don't recommend focusing too much on knife damage - you will rarely engage in melee combat.
- Every few skill levels, you will need to unlock further upgrades with Red Gel. It's a special type of gel that is only used for this purpose. You can often find it near mirrors or inside hideouts.
