Chapter 5 - Lying in Wait | Walkthrough Guide The Evil Within 2

The fifth chapter takes place inside of a city hall and during it you must face two different bosses.

• Boss - The Guardian
• Enter City Hall and search for Lily
• Find and Activate the Stable Field Emitter on the second floor of City Hall
• Boss - Obscura
• Leave City Hall

Chapter 5 starts where the fourth chapter ended - right after you leave the sewers. Get closer to a gate blocked by a barbed wire and examine corpse that lies right next to it. You collect Files [Photo of Sebastian Castellanos] and trigger a cut-scene. After that you must face a boss, the Guardian, you met him in the second chapter.

Boss - The Guardian

Shock Bolts work great on this enemy.

This is a first full-fledged boss fight during which you can easily die (especially when you play on a higher difficulty level). The enemy can only use melee attacks - this means that you must be constantly on a move (use sprint). After a few seconds the foe stops for a moment. You can now attack him and deal some damage. You can also use Shock Bolts to stun the enemy - the boss receives damage and is paralyzed for a few seconds.

A tripwire that slows time.

You can also use environment to your advantage. The fountain, located near the entrance, is perfect for that - 1-2 rounds around it is enough to make the enemy stop chasing you for a moment. You can also find a few cameras with tripwires. Make the boss run through it. A characteristic blue bubble will slow him down (the same one that was with the levitating bodies in chapter 2). But be careful because running through those tripwires can also slow down the main hero. The enemy has no health bars which means that you must keep damaging him until the boss is dead.

Enter City Hall and search for Lily

Collect items before you enter the city hall.

Pick up Green Gel from the enemy and explore the area - you can find a lot of breakable chests and items to collect. When you are done, you can enter the building. Inside, you must watch a cut-scene during which you receive a Communicator connected with the mission.

Find and Activate the Stable Field Emitter on the second floor of City Hall

A workbench, a terminal that saves the game and a passage that leads to nowhere.

Examine all of the rooms carefully because you can find a lot of different items, including a workbench and a terminal that can save your progress. There is also a passage near the workbench - ignore it because it leads to nowhere. Find and go through double doors to continue the level.

A Herb hidden under the stairs.

There is nothing interesting in the room with the levitating corpse so go through another double door and continue exploration. Under the stairs you can find a Herb and inside of a small room you can collect Handgun Ammo. Take them, go up the stairs and go to the other side of the curtains.

Place the mannequin and the items correctly. Then, take a photo of them.

Here, you can find a mannequin that stands in front of a camera. This is a part of a puzzle. Interact with the mannequin and place it in a such way that it would face the camera. Then, you must pick up a necklace that is on the mannequin's left and put it around its neck. Approach the painting, that depicts a woman in blue dress, on a wall- there is a vase with a rose. Pick up the rose and put it inside of the vase next to the mannequin. Stand behind the camera, adjust focus indicator so it would be in the middle and take a photo. Leave the camera and notice a new passage that has opened behind the mannequin.

These Files are also hard to miss.

While you are walking down the hallway, you can examine highlighted pictures. Around the middle of the hallway you can find a drawer with a lamp - pick up another Files [Krimson Post Article]. Reach the end of the hallway and turn around - in the distance you can see doors and hear that someone wants to go through them. Approach the door and go through them. You are in another hallway. Reach its end and you will listen to the hero's monologue. After that a new door will appear.

Yet another Files.

Pass a few mannequins by and get closer to a desk from which you can collect new Files [Photo of Murdered Mobius Operative]. Pick them up and go back through the door that you used to came here. You are in a new hallway. Keep walking and get closer to a person that is taking your pictures. This shuts the door. Go back and move forward. You are now inside of a very dark room. Approach a chair with a mannequin's head to trigger another cut-scene.

These Files are in a room with immobilized enemies.

In this room you can find a few enemies but they won't be a threat to you so ignore them. Pick up Files [Handwritten Note] that lies on the table near the door, go through them and then through another door that are at the end of the next hallway. You are back in the room with the mannequin that was a part of the puzzle. Only one way leads from here. While you are on your way, you can collect items from a shelf (2x Handgun Ammo, Medical Syringe and Shotgun Ammo) and run to another room where you must face a new boss.

Boss - Obscura

The enemy will stop the mechanism every few seconds.

The fight won't start right away. You must first activate a mechanism that is in front of the entrance. This triggers a rather long cut-scene. After that the boss will appear. This fight is different than the one with the Guardian - you can't kill this enemy (and this isn't the point of the fight). A timer with 90 seconds limit is now displayed on the screen - the fight ends when the time runs out. The enemy will interrupt you by stopping the time. When this happens, you must simply attack the enemy a few times with any weapon - this stuns the foe and the timer can continue its countdown.

When the timer reaches a half of the time limit, the enemy will start crawling on the ceiling.

Attack him. After that the boss will start chasing you - run away from him and hide behind the columns. After a few seconds the enemy will stop the timer again. Stun him. You must repeat the whole process until the timer reaches its end. However, you must remember that the enemy changes his tactics when the timer is reduced by a half - instead of running on the ground he will start crawling on the ceiling. This means that finding him is much more difficult. Don't waste too much ammo on him - this enemy can't be killed, regardless of how many times you hit him. The enemy disappears when the time limit reaches 0. This ends the fight.

Leave City Hall

The last few "collectibles" are clearly visible and hard to miss.

Go through the double doors. You should now carefully examine the entire building because you have access to places that were previously unreachable. You can collect a lot of things - ammo and healing items. On the floor you can find Files [Report #00213: Union Social Maintenance] and a Locker Key that is located on the ground floor (as always, they are inside of a small figurine that you must destroy) and another Files [Report #00977: Urgent Structural Issues]. All items are clearly visible so you won't have any problems with finding them. After that you can go outside. This starts another cut-scene which ends the fifth chapter.
