Blizzard's competition wants to strike while the iron is hot – or rather, until Diablo IV finally comes out. The developer's reputation may be tarnished, but the last Blizzcon proved how much people expect from this game. However, other hack'n'slash studios also have talented developers. In Echtra Games we can find such developers as Max Schaefer, one of the fathers of the original Diablo. In 2020, the company has planned a counterattack with Torchlight Frontiers.
The main advantage of the first two parts of the series, apart from pleasant game mechanics similar to those used in Diablo II, was the unique atmosphere of a joyful, colorful, arcane-punk slasher. Runic's studio simply didn't pretend anything. Torchlight Frontiers is aiming at a similar atmosphere, but this time we will visit the outskirts of civilization, where only the most persistent players can survive. We're going to hunt for monsters infected by a powerful crystal.
The basic assumptions and rules of gameplay also remain the same. You will choose a hero from several predefined and quite interesting character classes. For example, you can play as a charming robot, which in time will turn into a real war machine. You will have to destroy hordes of enemies and various types of monsters, collect experience points and loot tons of powerful items. Gameplay will get some minor and major improvements in the aforementioned aspects. However, it will retain the spirit of the series. The general architecture of the game will change – Torchlight Frontiers is a MMO game that puts a significant emphasis on cooperation. The whole in-game universe is shared by all players on the server, but the real fun begins when you descend to a randomly generated dungeon.
