Some of the content is hit or miss, but the story is told nicely throughout and ends up being an enjoyable way to relive this saga
Metro GameCentral: 7 / 10
A competent adaptation of the original anime but there's a serious danger of déja vu even for series fans, and the solid but unremarkable action is unable to overcome it.
VG247: 3 / 5 by James Billcliffe
But whether you’ve grown up with Goku and friends, or you’re a first timer who’s never fancied sitting through 300 episodes without getting to play a part in the action, this is still a great way to experience the classic story.
The main pros of the game
- Graphics: The game features stunning visuals and beautiful cutscenes that capture the essence of the Dragon Ball Z anime, earning high praise from players.
- Storytelling: The game provides a rich and detailed retelling of the Dragon Ball Z story, including additional side stories and character interactions that enhance the experience.
- Gameplay Variety: Players appreciate the variety of activities available, including side quests, fishing, cooking, and exploring the open world, which adds depth to the gameplay.
- Nostalgia: Many users express that the game is a must-play for fans of the anime, allowing them to relive iconic moments and characters in an interactive format.
- Community Board: The community board system adds a layer of strategy and character interaction that players enjoy.
The main cons of the game
- Repetitive Combat: Several reviews mention that the combat becomes repetitive and lacks depth, often feeling like a button-mashing experience rather than a strategic fighting game.
- Difficulty Balance: Many players find that the game is too easy, especially after leveling up, which diminishes the challenge and excitement of fights.
- Annoying Encounters: Random enemy encounters can be frustrating, interrupting exploration and leading to tedious grinding.
- Control Issues: Some users report difficulties with controls, particularly for keyboard and mouse setups, and express a desire for better customization options.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Dynamic Combat Mechanics: Players wish for a more evolved combat system with greater combo variety and dynamic difficulty scaling for enemies.
- Expanded RPG Elements: Some reviews mention a desire for deeper RPG mechanics, such as more intricate character development and progression systems.
- More Engaging Side Quests: While side quests exist, many players feel they are not as fleshed out or engaging as the main story, and they desire more meaningful content outside of the primary narrative.
- Improved Exploration: Users express that the open-world experience could benefit from more interactive elements and less frequent enemy encounters that disrupt exploration.
Summary
- Overall, while DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT is praised for its graphics, storytelling, and nostalgic value, it faces criticism for its repetitive combat and some gameplay mechanics that could be improved.
