Chronicles Of Elyria. A list of most-wanted upcoming MMORPGs

Table of Contents

  3. Distinguishing features: survival elements, no magic and fantasy creatures, ability to have children

Sandbox MMORPG is an unfortunate genre for some reason. The avant-garde of the genre are typical theme-park games, where the player hasn’t got much freedom, and the gameplay is pretty much linear. The Chronicles of Elyria will try to prove that you can attract more players without holding them by the hand.

In this game, life is the most important element – literally. Our character will age until it finally dies. The duration of our stay in this realm of tears is designed for about 14 months, and this period will be reduced with each premature death (for example in combat). As a result, you will need to think well about what you're planning to do. If we fail to produce a heir, our days will be counted. Unless we pay for the avatar’s life with real money – just like in real life.

However, money may become a problem in Chronicles of Elyria. In the campaign on Kickstarter, the developers allowed buying the title of duke or even a king – for dollars, of course, not digital gold. This is important because it's the players who will determine the policy of the countries, and the economy of the server. More affluent players will therefore have a greater impact on the game world, so it might turn into a pay-to-win.
