Side Quests in Forest of Wyrms BG: Siege of Dragonspear Guide
Last update: 02 June 2016
Forest of Wyrms contains few side quests which can be unlocked in various parts of the map. The biggest challenge is the quest involving defeating a huge dragon. If you cannot complete it now, consider returning to the dragon's den in the latter part of the game.
Beetles and Spiders
This task is connected with the den of spiders, which is located in the southern part of the map (M10,2). After entering the den, you can eliminate some spiders, but don't rush it, as you can get encircled by a group of monsters. During the combat with the spiders, watch out for various traps in the cave, because an accidental activation can result in paralyzing your team. After clearing the den, you can start investigating the side corridors, and gather Spider Eggs. Aside from that, in smaller caves you can find gems, gold, a magic sword and armor.
Sooner or later, in the main area of the den, beetles will start to show up. Among them, there is a overgrown variant of the monster - Rhinoceros Beetle. This danger can be overcome in two ways. If you want to avoid fighting the beetle, wait until it moves to one of the side caves in search for spider eggs, and leave the cave ( you may have to kill few lesser beetles - they aren't dangerous. If you have nothing against fighting, attack the big beetle, but be careful - it deals big slashing damage. Once you kill the monster, check its remains and take Rhino Beetle Shell.
Dragon Morentherene
Morentherene has his den in the cave in the north-eastern part of the forest (M10,4). The meeting is not marked in the journal, but we decided to give it some extra space in our guide as the dragon is one of the most powerful monsters met in the game. Firstly, you must know that the fight is not mandatory. We pass by the dragon's den on the way to the temple of Bhaal, but you can use the fact that the dragon will be sleeping, and go straight to the passage leading to the caverns (M10,5).
If you're planning to fight the dragon, make sure that the team is fully healed and has the greatest number of positive effects (increased damage, higher stamina etc.). Aside from that, immunize your team for fiery attacks, and prepare a huge supply of antidote (the dragon can poison your party). Fight will commence once you get close enough to the dragon. After entering the combat, worry about those team members who attack the monster directly, because they will receive the biggest damage (crushing, as well as slashing damage). If you can beat the dragon, you will be able to search his remains, and receive Dragon Scales. You can find additional treasure in the remains near the dead dragon, and where the dragon eggs are stored - rare gems and 3000 gold.
The Missing Patrol
This task is unlocked once you get to the ruined temple of Bhaal, specifically after reaching the prison (M10,8). A crusader, Keherrem, and his friends are imprisoned in the northern cages. After getting close to them, a conversation will start automatically, during which you will be asked to free the men. If you are planning to help the crusaders, you can do that gratuitously, or ask for the ability to join this group. No matter your motives, you have to reach the chamber with a mural in the western part of the temple (M10,11), and defeat the dragonlike creature, Ziatar. Once you defeat the beast, investigate her remains. Among others, you will find Jail Key. Return with the key to the cells, and open them. Keherrem will thank you for your help, and offer a meeting with his uncle Kharm in the crusaders' camp.
Alternatively, you can leave the crusaders in the cells, or kill them. If you chose the most radical variant, search for switch circled on the above screenshot. Using it will impale the crusaders on the spikes.
To be continued...
The Eyeless Priestess
This task will be unlocked soon after reaching the ruined temple of Bhaal, specifically after entering the prison (M10,8). A blind priestess, Madele, is in the eastern cage. During a conversation with her, you can learn about the events which occurred in the temple, and for how long she was held captive. Madele's cell cannot be opened in a traditional way. Instead, you have to go in the direction of the chamber with the mural, located in the western part of the temple (M10,11). Shortly before entering the room, investigate the side room, and the chest marked on the above screenshot. If you are able to disarm the trap and open the chest, you will be able to take the Parchment and get acquainted with its contents.
Warning - The further parts of this quest are coincided with the main quest Acquiring the Wardstone. You will find more detailed information about traveling through the temple, and defeating its hardest enemies in the description of that quest.
Enter the chamber with the mural. Here, you have to defeat a dragonlike creature, Ziatar. After killing the beast, investigate its remains and take two keys - Jail Key and Ritual Room Key. Stay in the room and take two objects from the table - Ziatar's Journal and Akanna's Journal. Their reading will discover new information about the temple. Return to Madele and open her cell. You can reveal to her that you are a child of Bhaal and order what she should do (it doesn't influence the quest in any way)
Continue exploring the temple. Use the key from Ziatar on the nearby door (M10,12). In the neighboring chamber you encounter a challenging enemy, Neothelid (M10,13). Once you win the battle, move to the south-east. If you want, while passing by you can visit the chamber of priestess Akanna (M10,14), but in her current state, she won't be talkative and will attack the party (she has the Wardstone, connected to the main plot). If you don't want to kill Akanna, ignore her room for a moment, and be on your way.
The destination is the last chamber of the temple - reliquary (M10,18). Here stays the monster responsible for the insanity of the inhabitants of the temple - Darskhelin. You have to fight him and his underlings, which for obvious reasons, won't be easy to win. Make an attempt to lure some of his helpers (especially Jhan, who is a magic wielder) out of the room, and attack them when they are away from Darskhelin. As for the main monster, try to immunize or at least regularly heal the party from spells connected to mind control and telekinesis. Killing Darskhelin will end the quest, and if you missed Akanna's chamber earlier, you can now return there and tell her about your actions.
