How to craft bombs?
In order to craft explosives, you have to find one of special cases marked on the map with a white bomb icon. You can find them on streets of Constantinople, in assassins' dens and at Piri Reis' shop.
When you open such mini-workshop, you'll see the bomb crafting screen. It is divided into three pouches, each corresponding to different types of explosives. These are (from the left):
Lethal Pouch - lethal grenades
Tactical Pouch - bombs which can stun or immobilize enemies
Diversion Pouch - charges used to distract attention
After decision, which kind of bomb you want to craft, you'll be asked to choose a casing, gunpowder and effect (special ingredient). First ingredient determines how the bomb "behaves" when it hit the target. Second ingredient determines the radius of an explosion and the third one determines a special effect.
When you choose all of them, just select "Craft Bomb" and add the appropriate amount of explosives to your pouch. A detailed description of ingredients can be found later in this chapter.
If you do not want to play with fireworks, you can buy ready-made bombs on the black market. Merchants are marked on the map with a black bomb icon.
Where can I find ingredients?
Crafting a bomb requires many different ingredients, which has to be somehow obtained first. Below you'll find methods to replenish gunpowder or casings supplies.
1. Ingredients can be found in each bomb crafting case.
2. Materials are located in chests hidden in the city. In addition to treasures described in previous chapter of this guide, there are a lot of wooden chests which are automatically replenished over time. They often lie next to the bomb crafting cases and in assassins' dens.
3. By sending your recruits on a mission to the Mediterranean region, you will be able to gain influence in different cities. Each metropolis provides then a constant supply of gold and ingredients.
4. You can find ingredients by enemies' dead bodies. Loot them by holding B.
5. Many different materials are available in Piri Reis' shop. In order to unlock new types of materials, send your assassins to complete contracts with his name. After that, the shop's offer will expand.
What are bomb types and how to use them?
The way the bombs works, depends on materials it is constructed of. These can be divided in three categories: shells, gunpowder and effects. First two are the same for each of available pouches (Lethal, Tactical and Diversion). Differences occur in the case of special substances. Below I'll try to explain each of materials and how to use its properties.
Casing
Impact Shell - bomb explodes on impact.
Comment: This is the simplest type of bomb, which works perfectly in most situations. Just throw it in the target and it will explode.
Fuse Shell - grenade bounces off the surface it hits and explodes after 3 seconds.
Comment: Thanks to delayed fuse, this type of bomb is very usable, when you want to distract guards in one place and quickly move to another. You can also throw it in poorly accessible place by bouncing it off the wall. The exact trajectory will be presented before the throw.
Trip Wire - this charge acts like mine. It is placed on the ground and explodes when target approaches it.
Comment: This type of grenade makes detecting you harder, but requires a moving target. So if you want to use it to kill standing guard, show yourself to him and the lure him out to the desired location. You place the mine by holding Y.
Sticky Pouch - it sticks to the surface it hits and explodes after 5 seconds.
Comment: With the right use of this type of bomb, you can easily hit a hidden or normally inaccessible opponent. The only thing you need is another guard, who patrols the area and approaches to your target from time to time. Just stick a bomb to him and wait until he unwittingly delivers a lethal charge to the right place.
Gunpowder
Indian Gunpowder - creates a small explosion radius.
Comment: It is effective on crowded streets. You'll avoid unnecessary casualties among civilians.
Arabic Gunpowder - creates a medium-sized explosion.
British Gunpowder - creates a wide explosion radius.
Special ingredients determine the name of the bomb. It has been shown in parentheses.
Special ingredient - Tactical Pouch
Lamb's Blood (Blood Bomb) - it pours blood on victims, allowing you to escape or quick execution.
Caltrops (Caltrop Bomb) - it scatters spikes on the ground, which immobilize opponents.
Phosphorus (Smoke Screen) - creates a dark smoke, allowing escape or surprise attack.
Comment: During the fight in smoke use the Eagle Sense.
Skunk Oil (Stink Bomb) - it stuns the hit target and deters surrounding people.
Comment: A good way to get rid of the crowd surrounding the target or guards.
Special ingredient - Lethal Pouch
Shrapnel (Splinter Bomb) - rapidly kills all the targets around.
Datura Powder (Datura Bomb) - poisons hit targets, killing them after a few seconds.
Coal Dust (Thunder Bomb) - kills certain targets while stuns others for a few seconds.
Comment: It works well in crowded streets. You will not kill too many civilians around the target with it.
Special ingredient - Diversion Pouch
Sulfur (Cherry Bomb) - produces a loud sound that attracts enemies
Comment: A great way to distract enemies in sneak missions. Just throw it in some distance from the enemy and he will run there, unlocking a passage for few seconds.
Salt of Petra (Smoke Decoy) - produces bright smoke, which attracts the attention of the guards.
Comment: It works like Cherry Bomb but only on these enemies, who see the smoke. You have to throw it in the range of their sight.
Pyrite Coins (Gold Bomb) - scatters coins on the ground, attracting passers-by.
Comment: It works well in crowded places. You can throw a charge at the guard, and the inhabitants of the city will divert his attention from you.
