How to defend your dens?
Until you train appropriate number of master, previously conquered dens can be attacked by Templar from time to time. To repel the attack, go to the indicated place and go inside the mansion. You'll begin a defensive mission then.
During it your task is to place defenders and barricades, so waves of attackers can be repelled. You'll learn about defense basics in the sixth memory of second sequence in main plot. In this chapter I'll try to give you some general tips that should help you win.
1. At the beginning always place a barricade in the front, while keeping in mind to save some space for Templar. If you do not do this, enemies will destroy the barricade, standing in place which is out of reach for your archers.
2. In the initial phase of the mission, the backbone of your army should be made from crossbowmen and air assassins. Place first of them behind the barricade and others should be placed in front of barricade. But do not exaggerate with their amount. Six of one and the other should definitely be enough. If any of defenders dies, replace him with the new one.
3. During the mission remember about using the artillery (LB). I suggest using it at the beginning of each wave, when enemies are close to each other. The main target for your cannons should be soldiers with grenades. They can rapidly destroy any barricade and often stand at the back, avoiding assassins defending the den.
4. Second half of the siege depends on the last enemy unit, which you can check before starting the battle. If it is siege machine then after defeating half of Templar army, begin to invest in shooters with rifles. Place them behind front-line troops, so they are not exposed to fire. Frequent use of the artillery will allow you to save required amount of morale. Another tactics is required in a case of attack by Templar running over rooftops. These powerful opponents can not only kill standard defenders, but also their leaders, thus blocking rooftops. To defend against them, place in the first line assassin bruisers and often use the Ezio's gun (X).
How to avoid Templar attacks?
The best way to avoid Templar attack on your den, is of course training of master assassin. But such straining lasts long and every den requires a separate leader. By the time the guild is very well developed, the foundation of you defense should be prevention. In the upper left corner of the screen you can see Templar Awareness Metter. It indicates the suspicion level of Templar looking at you, and it gets filled with all spectacular actions of Ezio (like overtaking a new den). When the indicator fills up to the end and gets red, your estates could be attacked by enemies. To avoid this, you must as soon as possible reduce the danger level (to zero). There are two ways to do it.
First one is to bribe heralds stranding on the streets and squares of Constantinople.
To bribe a herald, walk towards him and then press B. You'll lose some money, but will reduce the danger indicator by 25%.
In the second method your task is to kill one of the Templar agents. They wander around the town, always accompanied by two bodyguards.
Performing an execution reduces danger indicator by 50%. Both heralds and agents are marked on the city map.
