This part of our Chapter 5 (In Our Wake) walkthrough to Plague Tale: Requiem explains how to reach Joseph's boat after the protagonists end up splitting up. Free the boat

You must free the boat after it got stuck. Get out of the boat, stand next to it and start pushing. You'll manage to free it, but it will immediately swim away. Amicia and Lucas must follow it and get back on board somehow.

Find a way to reach the boat

Take the only available path by the rocks. At the fork in the road choose to go through the forest. You'll eventually hear some animal sounds. Don't move for a while to unlock a souvenir - The Stag's Roar.

Both paths eventually converge in the same place - you must move an obstacle and squeeze past some rocks.

Cross the construction site

In this new location you must create a way forward while avoiding rats. Use your sling to shoot the hanging hay with an Ignifier. The light will chase the rats away, letting you safely reach a distant platform.

Once you're there, command Lucas to use the crank. This will move another hanging hay bale.

Set it on fire with the Ignifier. Use the Ignifier vessel to chase away more rats as well. You'llreach another platform.

Keep working with Lucas, twisting more cranks and setting fire to more hay bales.

At a certain point a scripted event will happen - you'll get surrounded by a swarm of rats. Use Pyrite to save yourself from death. Grab it from Lucas and quickly press the displayed button (Triangle/Y on the controller). Pyrite only works for a limited time - you must reach a safe platform before it runs out.

Use another crank and once you let go, quickly set another hay bale on fire with the Ignifier. You may now move on.

On the new platform grab a stick and throw it to Lucas (pictured above). He'll set the stick on fire and use it to reach the next platform.

Set fire to some hay, jump down and look for a new secret chest in which you'll find a tool. After looting the chest run for the next platform.

Prepare your slingshot and shoot the hook next to Lucas to let him proceed. There are still rats below you you must chase away by setting fire to the hanging hay with the Ignifier. Lucas will join Amicia again.

Proceed. You'll come across a new workbench on the way.

Grab a stick from the basket, set it on fire and enter the rat swarm. You must safely reach the lit basket. You'll find some planks you can undermine to unlock a narrow passage.

Clear a path for the boat

You'll end up near the boat again along with the other characters. You'll also learn a large ferry crossing chain is blocking the river.

Try using the crank to bring the ferry closer. Unfortunately it'll get stuck, so you'll need to investigate the issue.

Look around the area's borders. You can go under the boards and ask Lucas to catch a cart. This will unlock the way forward.

Make your way through the contaminated area until you reach the corpse stuck in the mechanism. Pull it out.

Wait for Lucas to pull in the ferry. Get on board and ask Lucas to let go of the crank. You'll reach the opposite side of the river.

Get back on land and look up. Shoot the hook with your slingshot to knock down the counterweight and unlock the way forward for the boat. Amicia and Lucas will split up for the time being, so you'll need to traverse the next areas alone.

Find a way to reach the boat - continued

Before you head deeper into this area, there are two secrets you can find:

1) You can go under the hut to reach a secret chest.

2) You can find a hole in the fence next to the hut, squeeze through it, climb the ladder to the attic and find a locked workbench. You'll have to sacrifice a knife to unlock it, but you'll be rewarded with a tool and crafting ingredients.

Set out for the stone structure by the river. Start pushing the crate on wheels and take it to the ledge pictured above. Climb onto the crate and from it to the top.

In the next area you must reach the rotating mechanism - using it moves the platform. Move it to the area you came from.

You must now return to the previous location. To do so, shoot the hook with your slingshot (pictured above). This unlocks a new bridge. Walk over it and squeeze past the boards.

Start pushing the cart again. This time you must place it on the platform you've just moved (pictured above).

Return to the rotating mechanism. Use it to transport the platform and the cart to a new area.You can now set the crate on wheels under a new ledge (pictured above). Climb onto it to trigger a cutscene.

Help Lucas

You must use a stationary crossbow mounted on the boat.

Save Lucas before the enemies kill him. Shoot them with the crossbow - it doesn't matter where you hit them, the bolts will kill them even through armor.

Now you must create a lighted way to the boat for Lucas. First change the bolt type - hold R1/RB on the controller to access the menu and select Ignifier Bolts.

Shoot wooden surfaces with them to create light. We've pictured the complete path above. Lucas will successfully reach the boat and you'll continue going down the river.
