Plague Tale Requiem is a game where it is easy to die or encounter strong opponents. From this page of the guide, you will learn about the available difficulty levels - their differences and how to switch between them. We have also compiled additional options to make the game easier and explained how they work.
Choosing a difficulty level
You select the difficulty level for the first time when starting a new game. You can also change your choice later by going to the options menu. You must then resume the game from the last checkpoint.
There are 3 difficulty levels:
- Narrative - This is the equivalent of the easiest difficulty level. It is intended to reduce the level of challenge in confrontations to the maximum and help focus on exploration and the storyline.
- Normal - This is the default setting that offers balanced gameplay. Fights may give you problems and force you to replay them, but you shouldn't find any of the battles impossible to win.
- Hard - This difficulty is for those looking for an extra challenge. Opponents are more dangerous, while Amicia has to deal with the limited supplies. We don't recommend this difficulty for your initial playthrough.
Additional note - Difficulty levels do not affect the trophies. You can set the game to Narrative and you will still get the platinum trophy.
Other settings
In the options, you will also find other settings that can help you during the game:
- Help Frequency - It is responsible for how quickly you get hints when solving puzzles. The default value is Normal. You can increase it or turn off if you want to solve the puzzles yourself.
- Invincible Mode - This offers partial immortality and we described it in more detail on the Cheats page.
- Automatic Quick Interactions - You can enable skipping QTEs where you have to press certain buttons quickly.
- Use Aim Assist - You can make it easier to accurately aim at enemies' heads and the default setting is Normal. Disabling aim assist increases the risk of missing the target and death if a given opponent is heading toward the heroine.
