On this page of our guide to Uncharted: Drake's Fortune we have prepared a detailed description of Chapter 5 - The Fortress. The action takes place in the title fortress. The main character will have to climb a lot - you have to skillfully reach many ledges and recesses. Inside the fortress you will have to take part in many battles with numerous opponents. In this chapter you can find, among others, a Strange Relic which is associated with one of the trophies.

Nate ran towards the fortress - it turned out that he can only get to it by performing inhumane stunts. [1] On the first wall the matter was simple - he just had to climb several ledges.[1]

The next wall was already more complicated. At first Drake swung on the rope(1) and jumped on the ledge to the right(2). From there he jumped up and left (3), and from the top he jumped right and down (4). From there he had to make another jump to reach the vine (5) to the right and then jump on the next ledge.[1] In the second part of this challenge it was easier - he had to cross a short path to the window carefully watching out for the shattering grip(1).[2]

In the middle of the fortress it turned out that all iron gates were blocked, so Drake was forced to look for a further way out by moving through another window. Another complex passage was awaiting him - this time he had to jump over two vines (2-3) leading to the corner of the building on a collapsing ledge.[1] Around the corner, Nate jumped down 3 times and then grabbed a vine on the right. He climbed up a little higher on the rope and jumped on a rocky ledge to the right. Here he made a series of jumps, watching out for scattered fragments(3).[2] From the upper vine he jumped into the window and pierced the grating.

Inside the castle, Nate collected all weapons and run to the exit. He immediately hid by the left wall and eliminated all enemies.[1] When the area was clear downstairs, he jumped inside and hid on the inside part of the smaller ruins and killed all bandits standing on the walls.[2] There were several enemies standing on different sides around the square (some of them were not visible from one spot).

Nate climbed the castle walls by using the footbridge and turned left. He turned towards the square in the pit where he had just been - there was a canopy over the ruins under which he had previously been hiding. He had to jump on it by running and bouncing out from the spot with a crack.[1] On the canopy he turned left and found a Strange Relic - a very unique artifact which unlocks the Relic Finder trophy.[2]

The hero leaped back on the wall and ran ahead. He passed three small towers with domes and got through a pile of stones - in the fourth tower there was a Silver Jaguar.[1] Then Nate ran back through the stones and jumped down to the square with stairs leading to an arched tunnel. He hid behind the ledge on his right by the stairs and killed all enemies who came out of the tunnel[2].

He turned 180 degrees while under the stairs and saw two arches with bars blocking the passage. Another treasure, the fancy Gold Mosaic Inca Earring was under the right arch[1], behind a pile of stones (Nate had already passed by the treasure, but could not reach it through the bars earlier)[2].

Nate went to the tunnel from which the enemies just ran out - on the other side he saw a truck and a few more troublesome thugs. He killed them from behind the crates. [1] When he got rid of the enemies visible from inside the tunnel, he ran towards the truck and hid behind the crates - on the left there was a bandit using a stationary rifle. Firstly, Nate shot at an explosive barrel lying on the wall and then shot the enemy rifle operator - when she was reloading the machine gun.[2]

After he had defeated his enemies, he ran through a tunnel blocked by crates. He jumped over them and in the next open room he climbed the stairs (by turning back). From there, he headed towards the tower where Elena's parachute was waving.[1] He circled around the ruined structure and climbed to the top. He descended on a rope (from the window) to a closed building and saw his friend at a distance. He shot at a padlock and left the room. After he left the room, he ran to the left, lurched behind a single column and killed his enemies (at first, the one who operated the stationary machine gun)[2].

When the area was cleared of enemies, he jumped downstairs and ran into a dark tunnel leading into the fortress. When he came to the sewer he descended down on the left, into the water - another rifle was shooting at him from the opposite side of the corridor. He sneaked closer and hid by the second arch - from here he killed the enemy shooter.[1] He climbed the wall to the right behind the arch (on the rifle's side) - the room was guarded by enemies. Nate found a lot of equipment and a treasure - Golden Spoon. It was hidden behind the ammunition boxes in the corner.[2]

Nate went back to the sewer and turned in the direction of stationary machine gun. Explosive barrels stood there - he shot at them and blew up the wall, opening a new passageway (of course, he could have done it earlier and blew up the enemy shooter in this way).[1] After passing through, the hero found himself in a room filled with water. A difficult battle was awaiting him. Nate jumped down and hid behind a smaller obstacle. He killed the enemy standing in the front and fired at opponents on the platforms. Now he turned left - a second squad of enemies has jumped out of the pipes. Killing them was a priority - otherwise they would have circled the adventurer.[2] When the left side was safe, Nate defeated all enemies standing at the top while continuously moving left - another group of bandits jumped out of the pipes on the right, trying to circle the hero again.

After a fierce battle, Nate climbed a stone near one of the scaffolds. Then he jumped on the scaffolding. From there, he jumped onto the column and then onto the torch-lit surface. [1] Then, he opened the door by using the mechanism and jumped into the water in the next location. He swam ahead and left - there were several handles in the wall, so he used them to get to the one side and activated another mechanism [2].

The room was filled with water, which allowed Nathan to climb to the other side and activate the last mechanism.[1] Now you could climb the illuminated stairs and continue on.[2]
