On this page of the Tunic guide, you will learn all about the combat system, which, although simple assumptions, can cause problems, at least at the beginning. Check out how to fight to always be victorious.
- Use single attacks, avoid more complex combos
- Don't forget to block enemy strikes with your shield
- Lock on the currently attacked enemies
- Don't forget about magic
- Use bombs often
Use single attacks, avoid more complex combos
It is easy to get carried away in the fight and start swinging your sword left and right, ignoring the opponents' moves. However, this might quickly make you dead, as the opponents will start countering. So it is much better to deal a single hit and wait for the opponent's turn. In some situations, you can perform a simple combo of 3 attacks. There is no need to "spam" the attack hoping to win.
Don't forget to block enemy strikes with your shield
We mentioned above that it's best to perform a single attack and then wait for the adversary's move. However, wait for the enemy's attack with your shield ready, and you will be much safer and minimize the risk of taking unnecessary damage. Remember that the shield has a durability bar, so it will block a few blows and then slightly stun your character. So use it wisely, don't run with it all the time, but don't forget to equip it for a fight.
Lock on the currently attacked enemies
A very useful function during combat is locking on the opponent using the LT button on Xbox consoles and the Shift key on PC. This will make the character you control constantly turn towards the selected enemy, and each attack will be aimed at him. This option is especially useful in 1v1 matches and lets you fully focus on your opponent.
Don't forget about magic
On your way, you will find items such as a Wand or a Magic Dagger that will allow you to fight in a truly magical way - for example, ranged projectiles or attacks allowing you to control enemies (such as temporarily immobilizing your opponent). These skills greatly enrich your range of battle possibilities but remember that using them results in the spending magic points shown on the blue bar. You can renew them with magic potions (if you have the appropriate card) and by visiting checkpoints.
Use bombs often
Melee and magic weapons are not the only ways to deal with your opponents. During the game, you will find a lot of additional items you can use during combat. The most powerful and useful items are, by far, the various bombs. They can set enemies on fire (dealing damage over time) and freeze them (thus immobilizing them), and above all, they are much more dangerous than the basic attack or skills. You can carry many of them in your inventory - but it's best to use them during boss fights. The combat becomes much easier then because the bombs allow you to deplete the long health bars of the greatest opponents very fast.
