Remove the spear from Trico's body

Start tapping different buttons on the game pad and then, lean the left analog stick to wake up the boy. Approach Trico. After the creature calms down a little, find the spear stuck in the left side of its body. Climb onto Trico, grab the spear (Circle) and start pulling it out (lean away the analog stick while holding down the Circle).

Bring Trico a barrel

Your next task is to feed the beast. To do this, you have to find three barrels around the cave. The first barrel is on the top ledge that you have to climb onto (lean the stick and press Triangle). Pick up the barrel. You can either jump down while still holding it, or you can simply toss it to Trico (Square). As the beast is not yet fully tame, walk away after you throw the barrel and wait for it to feed.

Use the lever to gain access to a small room

The second barrel is in a small locked room. To the left of it, there is a lever that you have to pull on (hold down Circle and lean the stick). Just like earlier, bring the barrel back to Trico and walk away to let him feed.

Cross the small hole to get to the third barrel

The last barrel is on the ledge above, to the left. Climb onto the neighboring one and cross a small hole in the wall. Bring the barrel to Trico.

After a while, you will learn that there is yet another spear stuck in Trico's body around the shoulder. Just like before, you have to grab the spear and remove it.

Mount Trico and grab the lever on his collar

From now on, you can use the R1 trigger to call Trico to you (he only appears if there are no obstacles in his way and if nothing else has distracted him too much). The next step is to remove his collar. Start climbing onto the beast ) lean the stick in the correct direction and tap Triangle). After you have reached the collar, grab on to the lever and pull on it. This way, you will have freed Trico and the monster will follow you.
