Last update: 12 June 2024
On the following page of the Songs of Conquest game guide, we have provided useful information on developing technologies and acquiring resources. You will learn how to conduct research, what raw materials can be used for and which of them are the most important.
Technology & Research
- Research in Songs of Conquest is divided into military (related to available unit types) and economic research. They are available only after you have built the right large buildings - you must have large vacant build sites. You can find out more about building on a separate page in this guide: Building and developing settlements.
- At the right edge of the screen you'll find a button that opens the research panel. Alternatively, press the F3 key.
- In the Research window, you can switch between the tabs - military and economic. They are named after the buildings that must be erected to access them.
- The combat section of the technology upgrades soldiers. If you have access to troops of more than one race, they will be separated here. With paid research you can increase your troops' stats.
- In the economics tab, you will develop technologies related to obtaining passive income of raw materials. In addition, you will increase the maximum limit of soldiers within a single troop (e.g. 30 archers in 1 squad instead of the default 20). The latter topic is described in more detail on the page How to expand the hero's army?
- The research is being developed immediately (i.e. you don't need to wait till the next turn), but there is a limited number of times you can "invest" in a technology (symbolized by the circles under the icons). In addition, they cost gold and special raw materials.
On the Recruiting and upgrading troops and Wielders and Magic guide pages, you can learn more about recruiting and developing units, as well as gathering the essence needed to cast spells.
List of resources and their uses
You can check your current raw materials (yellow/white value) and their income per turn (green value) at the top edge of the screen. If you hover your cursor over a resource, you will see its sources.
List of resources in Songs of Conquest:
- gold - a basic resource, required for virtually ALL transactions in the game;
- stone - necessary for constructing some basic buildings;
- wood - necessary for the construction of many small to medium-sized buildings;
- glimmerweave - used for erecting some of the more advanced buildings and developing technology;
- ancient amber - is used in putting up advanced structures and in research;
- celestial ore - used for constructing some medium to large buildings and to develop technology.
Ranking resources
- The most important resource in the game is gold. It contributes to the majority of transactions, whether it is building structures or recruiting units. Acquiring more gold is described on a separate page How to gather gold faster?.
- Stone and wood are the primary resources used to build and improve basic structures. There are good chances that you will find buildings for producing both raw materials in the vicinity of the acquired settlements and you won't always have to build them yourself.
- Glimmerweave, ancient amber and celestial ore find their use in the construction of mainly medium and large buildings. In addition, they are often used to develop new technologies. Rarely (though it does happen), small amounts of them are needed to recruit some strong units.
Acquiring resources
Sources of resources in Songs of Conquest:
- Standalone resources - there are clusters of various resources scattered all over the map, and all you have to do is look around for them. Most often they are guarded by an opponent and are unfortunately disposable, so once they are picked up they disappear permanently.
- Artifacts - Some artifacts, when worn, will give you a passive bonus to one of the resources, but they are very rare;
- Wielder skills - when a wielder is promoted, there may be a skill that, when unlocked, allows you to receive certain resources for free in each subsequent round. Buy only skills related to raw materials, of which you have a huge shortage. In other cases, choose other better skills.
- Mines - the most profitable way to obtain raw materials is to acquire mines. Keep an eye on these objects, as enemy wielders may seize them from you - it's best to recapture them as soon as possible then.
- Settlements - In settlements, you can make sawmills and quarries, even some military buildings require these structures.
