Escape from San Juan - Veni Vidi Perdidi Shadow of the Tomb Raider Guide and Walkthrough

This page contains description of the escape from San Juan which happens shortly after you leave the secret crypt. This is part of one of the main missions, Veni Vidi Perdidi, in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Lara must deal with Trinity forces - the game gives you a few different ways of eliminating the soldiers. The most interesting and useful methods have been described in our guide.

The first area with enemies

The good news is that Lara starts while she is hidden. The bad news is that San Juan is full of the best and well-equipped Trinity mercenaries. The enemies wear headgear which means that you won't be able to kill them with a bow. Use takedowns, Lara's abilities and environment objects to distract the soldiers or to, i.e. craft grenades.

When you are detected, you should go to a place where enemies will have hard time attacking you by surprise. You can also try to escape them and hide somewhere safe. The passage that leads to another location is presented in the picture above. Lara must squeeze through a hole in the wall. You can reach this place either after you sneak behind enemies or after you kill all of them.

The second area with enemies

Here, Lara will have to face mercenaries equipped with thermal vision googles. You can avoid detection by covering yourself with mud.

The problem is that there are a few soldiers near the passage that allows you to leave this area (see the picture above). Distract or kill all enemies in the vicinity. Remember that you can climb on ledges and jump from one tree to another. You can also use items like grenades, Molotov cocktails, hallucinogenic arrows or you can shoot at red barrels and containers. Leave this location by going through the gate which was guarded by enemies. There is a small opening above the gate - Lara can go through it.

The third area with enemies and a helicopter

The beginning part of this area gives you a few opportunities that you can use to sneak up on enemies (i.e. wide bushes). Thanks to them you can get closer to the mercenaries and hide their bodies. An enemy helicopter will appear above the area. Defeat enemies that will leave the vehicle. Try to attack them from afar. Avoid damage by standing behind, i.e. large rocks.

Once the mercenaries are dead, head to the building on the left. Open the gate presented in the picture (use your axe).

Escaping during an earthquake

You must now escape during an earthquake. As always, don't stop or you will kill Lara. Jump towards ledges and above gaps. You should also be careful when you are sliding down the hill presented in the picture above - remember to press the jump button in the right moment. The last part requires you to use your grapple axe. End this part by jumping into water.
