Deadly Obsession trophy in Shadow of the Tomb Raider Shadow of the Tomb Raider Guide and Walkthrough

Last update: 17 September 2018

This page of the game guide is dedicated to the Bronze trophy named Deadly Obsession in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider game. This achievement is awarded for completing the game on the highest difficulty level.

The highest difficulty level is available from the very beginning, but you should not choose it when trying to complete the game for the first time - Deadly Obsession trophy in Shadow of the Tomb Raider - Trophy Guide - Shadow of the Tomb Raider Game Guide

The highest difficulty level is available from the very beginning, but you should not choose it when trying to complete the game for the first time. Due to a lack of knowledge of the game mechanics you can have huge problems with exploration and winning skirmishes. Additionally, at the highest level of difficulty, solving puzzles and finding collectibles becomes a real challenge. It is best to finish the game on any other setting first, and choose the highest level for your second playthrough.

Here are the most important features of the Deadly Obsession difficulty level, as well as and hints on how to deal with the listed difficulties:

  1. The game can only be saved in Base Camps. This is one of the most important changes. On the lower levels of difficulty, Base Camps are rarely visited. On the Deadly Obsession difficulty level you have to look for every opportunity to save the game in a camp, even if it means some light backtracking (in the largest locations of the game). However, keep in mind that you have to keep acquiring resources since lighting a fire does come at a cost on the highest difficulty level.
  2. Climbing spots are not marked in any way. This is troublesome if you are playing the game for the first time. If you have already completed it, you should remember the most important places to climb, and this will make it easier for you to cope. Generally, unless you are being rushed, try to plan every move well ahead of time, especially if it consists of several parts (e.g. a jump together with using the ice-axe with a rope).
  3. Survival instincts are turned off. This can be tiring if you want to find collectibles or large amounts of resources. This is usually where survival instincts come in handy. Without this feature, you have to look around a lot by yourself or just focus on the progress in the main story.
  4. No health regeneration in combat. This is most troublesome when fighting against wild animals and other types of opponents that prevent you from sneaking. Try to learn to dodge perfectly, because in most situations dodging will be what saves Lara in melee combat. During confrontations with Trinity forces, try to remain hidden for as long as possible, and, if your attack is about to lose its momentum, try to flee with the hope of escaping their line of sight.
  5. No hints while completing puzzles. This is another factor that can cause trouble during your first playthrough of the game. Fortunately, you can always consult our game guide since the mechanics of the riddles are identical on all difficulty levels.
  6. Less reaction time. This is a "universal" obstacle. It may refer to QTE scenes (e.g. when battling against opponents) or climbing when Lara suddenly loses her grip, and you have to react quickly to not let go of the edge, and prevent the hero from falling into the abyss. Knowledge of the game again helps a lot here, but you also have to always be vigilant and ready to react quickly if the need arises.
