Food | Game Mechanics Northgard Guide & Walkthrough
Last update: 08 March 2018
Obtaining food is one of the basic prerequisites for the survival of your clan. It also makes it possible to occupy further territories. So you have to keep an eye on the food production rate. You will be informed about the amount of food produced by an indicator at the top of the screen.
Food production starts automatically. Each settler will collect food and bring it to the nearest storehouse. The condition of this action is that the settler is located in the area where the Food Silos or Food Production Sites are located, such as the Hunter's Hut or the Field. Therefore, if you have an unoccupied settler, move him to the area where such building is located.
However, this method of obtaining food is rather inefficient, so it is worth investing in other methods of obtaining food. This requires you to find an area where you can build food buildings. It is classified as Deers, Fertile Land, and Fish. In these buildings, you can hire two or even three employees (after upgrade). This will increase the amount of food produced.
Food production doesn't remain on a stable level. It depends on random events and season of the year. Food production is declining in winter. It can even take negative values. However, it is worth to remember that food stocks shouldn't be too low. Otherwise, you may lose all your food supplies and cause hunger.
The number of food units that your clan can store is strictly limited. Initially, it is 500 units. However, you can increase the amount of your food supplies. To do this, you will have to build another Food Silos. They will allow you to increase the amount of stored food. Each Silo increases the food storage limit by 300 units. In addition, it increases the food production efficiency by 10%.
