In No Man's Sky you can find survival mode. This mode allows players to face much more difficult enemies and limited resources on faraway planets. On this page of the guide we describe what is survival mode and what to in first hours of the game.
What's the survival mode like?
In the survival mode, the health points of all enemies were increased, so fighting them takes more time and is more challenging. Additionally, all enemies get more attack points, being able to kill the protagonist with a few hits.
Also, the survival mode severely limits the resources available on the planet. This forces the player to manage the resources carefully.
If you die in the survival mode, you will lose all the resources from your equipment and from the ship. On top of that, you will respawn on the nearest planet, in a remote location far away from the ship.
What to do first in survival mode?
- The most important thing you should do after starting this mode is to reach the space ship located much farther than in the normal mode.
- Watch out for the first storm which can happen right after you find the ship. You can't survive it so when the game informs you about the changing weather conditions, either hide in a cave or go back to the ship. Storms are much more dangerous in the survival mode meaning you will always need to find a shelter.
- At the beginning of the game, you should save up resources like oxygen or sodium - you can run out of them fast. You will them for more things than just keeping your life support functional. Instead, craft Life Support Gel and Ion Battery.
- After repairing the analysis visor, scan everything you come across. Sometimes an element you are looking for can be found in a plant or stone that can't be detected with the regular scanner.
- If the starting planet is too challenging, start the game from the beginning. Some planets, e.g. those covered in ice will have too extreme weather conditions for your character.
