Building bases in No Man's Sky NEXT No Man's Sky Guide
Last update: 03 August 2018
Bases in No Man's Sky have existed since the Foundation was updated. Together with the subsequent patches they were fixed and extended. No Man's Sky allows you to create many bases, on different planets. The base building option is available for all four modes that are currently available in No Man's Sky. All planets (except dead ones) can be colonized.

What are Bases for?
In No Man's Sky you can create bases on different planets. They can be used as a safe house for resting and as a protection from dangerous creatures. A base can be used for storing equipment, loading shields, repairing your suit or breeding animals. In base, you can store all types of equipment that you can't carry on your way to space. The base is also a good landmark that helps in traveling in space.
Where can you create a Base?
Base can be built anywhere on the planet. The only exception are dead planets, which cannot be colonized, and therefore it's impossible to erect any buildings or set up equipment in such uninhabitable places.
How do I create a basic computer?
To create a base you need a main, basic computer. You will find it under the tab "Portable technology". You must place the computer in the spot where you want to have the center of your base.
To create a base computer you need 40 Chromatic Metals. You will get them from a portable refinery. You can find out how to get the Chromatic Metal on a separate page of this guide.
Employees
The base also provides a location for your core NPC employees. You can recruit them from the space station and you have to assign each one to a specific terminal to perform their tasks. When they do their job, they will start to unlock new projects.
There are five types of workers available:
- Overseer,
- Armourer,
- Farmer,
- Scientist,
- Technician.
Each type of worker requires a specialized terminal to be built before he/she can be recruited.
Base Terminus Teleporter
Creating a base allows you to build a teleport. Teleport makes it possible to transport yourself to any of your other bases. It can also teleport you to space stations and bases of other players.
Farming
In No Man's Sky you can grow different kinds of plants. They provide valuable units because they can be sold after they grow. We have prepared a list of products that you can grow in your base, along with their growth time and sale values.
- Mordite - growth time - 60 minutes, sell value - 40 units,
- Cactus Flesh - growth time - 120 minutes, sell value - 28 units,
- Coprite - growth time - 30 minutes, sell value - 7 units,
- Solanium - growth time - 120 minutes, sell value - 165 units,
- Crost Crystal - growth time - 15 minutes, sell value - 158 units,
- Star Bulb - growth time - 30 minutes, sell value - 32 units,
- Gravitino Ball - growth time - 60 minutes, sell value - 8000 units,
- Albumen Pearl - growth time - 20 minutes, sell value - 27.500 units,
- Sac Venom - growth time - 40 minutes, sell value - 6000 units.
How to deconstruct a base
If you want to remove your database, you must first disassemble all the equipment placed in it. If you don't do this and you delete the base immediately, all the devices, raw materials and cultivation/husbandry will disappear.
If you want to delete a base you must select the option "Remove base" on the base computer.
Tips
As far as possible, bases should be built at a strategic location to facilitate agricultural activity and mission availability:
- Set up your base close to raw material deposits to maximize the use of the Autonomous Mining Department.
- The resources in base are revived after returning via teleport.
- Build bases on a planet with access to water.
- Make sure that there are no threats on the planet that could endanger your base.
- If you build a base near the cave you will get access to Marrow.
How to create a base?
Once you have set up your computer, you can start laying around the wooden floor and walls. However, you will have a zone that limits the size of your base. With the No Man's Sky NEXT update, the base can fit in an area of 20,000, and there's nothing to limit your selection. You choose the equipment and items that will be available in your base.
