How does the multiplayer work in No Man's Sky NEXT? No Man's Sky Guide
Last update: 03 August 2018
- No Man's Sky NEXT update has introduced the option to play with other players. On this page you can find descriptions of the functions offered by the multiplayer mode. They can also be treated as tips for this mode.
- 4 players - up to 4 players can now cooperate in No Man's Sky. They can be either complete strangers or friends.
- You can play on your save file from the single player mode - the multiplayer mode can be played on any save, you don't need to have a save file that was created after the NEXT update.
- You can continue your missions - you can continue your current mission even when you go back to the single player mode or you switch players.
- You don't have to look after other players - the game won't disconnect you when you move away from each other. You can explore the world freely to develop your character.
- Shared missions - you can now complete missions with other players - they focus on collecting resources and eliminating enemies.
- You can use items crafted by other players - you can do that even when you have just started playing the game.
- Cooperation - you can help others by crafting machines, changing the landscape and giving players items.
- Marking targets - to make the cooperation easier, the developers have prepared a function that allows players to mark targets on the map. Simply open the map and mark a desired point. After that your friends will be able to see it.
- You can't pilot starships with others - your starship is only yours, you can't use it to travel with other players.
- Building bases with others - you can place a computer and then build a base around it with other players. Players can see where you want to place, e.g. a wall which makes building with others easier.
- Someone can steal your starship or destroy your base - currently, there are no ways of protecting yourself from those actions which means that players can do that and suffer no consequences.
