Last update: 22 July 2021
On this page of the guide to Monster Hunter Rise, you will read about Wirebugs. You will learn about Great Wirebugs and Jewel Lilies. We inform how to control Wirebugs and explain what they can be useful for.
Wirebugs - what are they?
Wirebugs are a new tool for navigating in Monster Hunter Rise. Thanks to them, traveling through vast areas will be much faster. They can also be used during fights against monsters or help escape from an aggressive opponent. Skilful use of Wirebugs also allows you to run along the walls. Take some time to familiarize yourself with the controls of Wirebugs.
The basic equipment of each hunter is 2 Wirebugs. Their number is always displayed at the bottom of the screen. After using a Wirebug, its charge will be depleted. In order to use a Wirebug again, you will have to wait until it is restored. These charges regenerate have different cooldowns, depending on the type of movement performed by using a Wirebug.
You can also come across wild Wirebugs. When you approach them and press A, they will join you for a limited time. The icon of the 3rd Wirebug will start flashing when it decides that it wants to return to freedom.
A hunter can't carry more than 3 Wirebugs at a time.
Once you find a wild Wirebug, it will be marked as a white icon on the map. Thanks to this you will be able to check the locations of wild Wirebugs and plan how to get to the monster or the quest's objective.
Wirebugs - use
Wirebugs have many applications, thanks to them you can:
- Quickly move around the region - Press ZL A to jump forward, ZL B to perform a high jump. After these movements, Wirebugs' charges get restored very quickly;
- Run along the walls - While holding ZL and pointing the camera at a high wall, press ZR. Your character will soar into the air and jump on the wall. While on the wall, hold the R to run along it. Read more about this on a separate page of the guide: How to run on the wall?;
- Use them as Silkbugs - When you have your weapon drawn, press ZL A or X. Silkbugs will jump out of the Wirebugs and deal massive damage to nearby enemies. If you are fighting with a ranged weapon, press R A or X;
Each weapon has 3 different Silkbugs attacks. You will start with 2, and unlock the 3rd via the ability change system unlocked later in the game.
- Run away from monsters' powerful attacks - If you're fighting at a close distance, you can use Wirebugs to get away from the monster. Sheath your weapon with R, point the camera in the right direction and press ZL A to escape the attack;
- Dodging - During a fight, you can be knocked out or thrown into the air. To avoid hitting the ground, press ZL B right before you fall;
- Hang in the air - When you launch yourself up with a Wirebug, hold A to hang on it in the air. You can hang on like this forever, but the Wirebugs' charges won't fill up. Using objects while hanging is also impossible. However, this trick is very useful if you want to avoid, for example, the enemy's charge;
- Move faster when transporting large objects - Your hunter carries larger items, such as monster eggs, with both hands. You won't be able to ride on the dog or run fast. The best way to transport a large object to the guild chest is to use Wirebugs. Press ZL A or X, or point the camera anywhere and press ZR. Once you're standing over the precipice, you can use a Wirebug to jump down safely.

After a few hours, the elder hunter Hanenaga will give you some Great Wirebugs. When placed in the right place in the hunting area, the Great Wirebug will act as a giant slingshot. With it, you will get to the highest places in the area, often inaccessible during normal climbing.
You don't control your character when using a Great Wirebug. Once placed, a Great Wirebug will always take you to the same place.
Jewel Lilies
Each hunting region has several Jewel Lilies. Great Wirebugs are kept inside them. When you discover a Jewel Lily, put a Great Wirebug in it and see where you will be launched. All located Great Wirebugs will be marked as yellow icons on the map.
