Monster Hunter: Rise
After releasing exclusively on the Nintendo Switch earlier this year, Monster Hunter Rise is finally arriving on PC. While much of the game has stayed the same, the enhanced visuals are a delight. Here's our review.
The main pros of the game
- Dynamic Combat Mechanics: The introduction of Wirebugs and Switch Skills adds a fresh layer of mobility and strategy, allowing for acrobatic maneuvers and varied combat styles.
- Variety of Monsters and Weapons: The game features a diverse roster of monsters, including both new and returning favorites, and offers a wide range of weapons that cater to different playstyles.
- Cooperative Play: Multiplayer options are enhanced, allowing for quick matchmaking and the ability to skip cutscenes, making it easier to team up with friends.
- Visuals and Art Style: While not as graphically advanced as Monster Hunter World, the vibrant art style and dynamic environments are appreciated by many players.
- Accessibility for Newcomers: The game is considered a good entry point for new players due to its faster-paced gameplay and simplified mechanics compared to previous titles.
The main cons of the game
- Graphics and Performance Issues: Many players feel the graphics are underwhelming compared to Monster Hunter World, with some noting that the PC port has control and performance issues, especially for keyboard and mouse users.
- Gameplay Balance: Some users find the combat to be less challenging, with hunts feeling shorter and easier, leading to a perception of reduced depth and strategy.
- Matchmaking and Online Play: The online player base is reported to be smaller, making it difficult to find groups for multiplayer hunts, which diminishes the cooperative experience.
- Content and Grind: Players express frustration with the late-game grind, citing issues with RNG mechanics for upgrades and crafting, and a lack of engaging endgame content.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Depth in Combat Mechanics: Some players miss the more strategic and methodical combat found in previous titles, feeling that the fast-paced nature of Rise sacrifices some of the tactical elements.
- Environmental Interaction: There is a desire for more environmental hazards and interactions during hunts, as many feel that the maps lack the complexity and liveliness of those in Monster Hunter World.
- Narrative and Character Development: Users noted that the story and character interactions felt less engaging compared to previous entries, with some elements feeling superficial or lacking depth.
- Customization and Gear Progression: Several reviews mention dissatisfaction with the crafting and upgrade systems, particularly the randomness involved in obtaining desirable gear and the tediousness of managing skills and upgrades.
Summary
- Overall, while Monster Hunter Rise introduces exciting new mechanics and is enjoyable for many players, it faces criticism regarding its depth, graphics, and online functionality compared to its predecessor, Monster Hunter World.

Monster Hunter: Rise Description
Monster Hunter: Rise is another installment in the famous action RPG series, in which we hunt for powerful beasts. The game offers a single player mode, as well as the option to play in a four-player co-op. The Japanese company Capcom, which has been developing this cycle for years, is responsible for its development and release.
Plot
Monster Hunter: Rise action is set in a village called Kamura and the surrounding area. The plot of the game focuses on strange, destructive events called Rampage, which threaten the mentioned village.
Mechanics
In Monster Hunter: Rise, we observe the action from behind the hero's back. The gameplay is similar to the previous versions of the series - while travelling through an open and screenless world (including the ruins of a temple) we hunt for various beasts we encounter, using an assortment of weapons and additional items. As the game progresses, we acquire new equipment (we often make it from the acquired ingredients) and develop the hero's skills.
Rise introduces some new ideas and a mechanic to a proven formula. We have a rope with a hook called Wirebug, which allows to get to seemingly inaccessible places and use completely new tactics during the hunt. We also encounter monsters that have not been seen before, such as the shape-shifting Aknosome, the giant amphibian Tetranadon and the powerful Magnamalo.
A new type of creature can also help players - Palamutes are used as mounts and allow to perform special attacks.
Game modes
In Monster Hunter: Rise can play both alone and with others. The game offers a feature campaign and a four-person co-op mode.
Technical aspects
Monster Hunter: Rise has a solid, three-dimensional graphic design. The game does not set new standards, either for the series or for the genre, but its character cannot be denied. Particularly noteworthy here are the original designs of the monsters we hunt for during the game.

Just Give Us Monster Hunter: World 2 and We'll All be Dandy, Capcom
Monster Hunter: World captivated gamers, so the bar for Monster Hunter: Wilds is set really high. In reality, however, Capcom doesn't need to reinvent the wheel – it can give us the same thing, only more of it. Simple, right?
