Manor is one of the most important buildings in Manor Lords, allowing collecting taxes and obtaining Influence. The building can be upgraded, but in opposition to village upgrades, allows certain freedom when choosing new facilities. On this page of our guide, we explain the uses of Manor and how to upgrade it with the help of Castle Planner.
What is manor?
The Manor is, at the moment (Early Access 0.7.002), the only administrative building in the game. Building one immensely improves the level of Public Order in your village, which lowers crime and prevents the permanent loss of villagers who turn to banditry. Building a Manor is rewarded with a bonus of 250 Influence, which is a needed resource if you want to conquer new regions, as well as allows collecting taxes from village inhabitants. You can set the severity of the taxes in the Manor menu. Moreover, a Manor also provides you with a retinue consisting of 5 elite military units serving as your personal guard.
To build a Manor, you need to spend 5 Timber, 20 Planks, and 15 Stone, and your settlement has to be at least at Small Village level.
How to upgrade a manor?
Unlike other buildings, you have a freedom what upgrades you want to apply on your Manor. It is also the only building that enables you to use the Castle Planner tool. With its help, you have a choice what Extensions to build near the Manor, each offering different bonuses.
During the building process of Extensions, the Manor stops increasing Public Order. Try not to overdo it with building Extensions so the building processes don't take too long and prevent you from maintaining Public Order at a satisfying level.
The areas where you can build Extensions are marked in yellow, but building Extensions near the borders additionally increase this effective area. Below you can find a list of all possible unique Extensions you can build in your Manor:
- Walls and gates - surrounds the Manor with a wall that the enemy units need to scale before being able to attack the building. The walls build on top of roads become gates. Building a wall costs Planks (depending on the length) while each Gate requires an additional 1 Timber to construct.
- Outer tower - can house 10 military units. Soldiers inside the outer tower can fire at nearby enemy units. Outer tower costs 10 Timber and 5 Stone to build.
- Garrison tower - increases the maximum number of retinue units you can field. You can recruit additional units to the retinue by pressing on Retinue Customization icon which can be found by choosing the retinue in the bottom of the screen. You can pay for new soldiers with money or promote townspeople (an option unavailable in early access). Building a Garrison tower costs 10 Timber, 15 Planks, and 10 Stone. There can only be one Garrison tower in a village.
- Tax office - no functions in early access. It costs 4 Timber to build.
