Taxes in Manor Lords are your main source of income. On this page of our guide, we have explained what they are, how to collect them, what their characteristics are and what they can be useful for.
What are taxes?
Taxes are one of the two main sources of income that you can use to fund your treasury (the other is destroying bandit camps). To collect them, you must first build a Manor. From the building menu you can then set the amount of taxes that will be collected from each Burgage plot every month.
Currently, the only types of taxes in the game are the land tax and the tithe, which involves giving surplus food to the church in exchange for influence. Other types of taxes are expected to be implemented in later updates.
Collecting taxes transfers gold from a region's wealth to your treasury, allowing you to hire mercenaries or establish new settlements in other regions. The higher your taxes, the more your approval will drop, so make sure you have plenty of it.
What is Royal Tax?
In the demo from 2022, the player had to pay a monthly royal tax. However, the Early Access release (0.7.002), on which this guide is based, doesn't have this mechanic.
