Ale becomes a very important resource in Manor Lords once you have developed your village a bit. Constant access to ale is one of the requirements you must meet to upgrade your burgage plots from level two to level three. However, the process of obtaining it may turn out to be quite complicated. On this page of the guide, we described how to make ale and distribute it to your settlers.
How to grow barley?
Ale is the end product of a rather long production chain that begins with barley. It is a crop that you can grow on farmlands and harvest on your farm. After entering the construction menu on the right side of the screen, you will see a list of overlays - selecting the barley overlay will show you the fertility of the soil for this crop. Try to create fields only on fertile lands. Fertility decreases as crops are cultivated, but increases again when another crop grows on the field or it is not used.
In the farmland menu, you can set a cropping plan for several years. Place different crops or leave the field empty for some time to allow the soil to regenerate. You may try to build several fields, use the three-field method (annual change of crops) or get an upgrade from the settlement development tree, which will allow you to graze sheep on empty fields, increasing the rate of soil regeneration.
If your land is not suitable for growing barley, consider importing it at a trading post. Buying barley will cost you less than buying products made from it.
How to brew ale?
Once you get the barley, you need to turn it into malt. To do this, build a malthouse and its employee will take care of this. Then you need a brewery extension, which you can build on every burgage lot upgraded to at least level two. Building an advanced extension will permanently assign one of the residents to serve in it. The process of building extension is described in more detail on a separate page of the guide.
After a brewery employee makes ale, you must start distributing it to settlers - this requires building an inn. Settlers will occasionally come there after work to drink ale, which will increase their approval rating and allow you to upgrade their burgage plots.
