Manor Lords: How to upgrade house? Manor Lords Guide

This page of the introductory guide to Manor Lords will tell you all about uprading buildings. Especially about developing burgage plots / houses.

Last update: 29 April 2024

In Manor Lords, one of the overarching goals will be maintaining the supply of resources needed for the happy and prosperous living of the village inhabitants. On this page of the guide, we show how to upgrade Burgage Plots and create Extensions, and also cover the topic in terms of what to pay attention to and how costly are such developments. We also hint what investments should take priority.

What are Extensions for?

To begin with, a Burgage Plot serves as housing for a single family, consisting of a residential building and a yard. The most important feature of these Plots is that when placing them, you can adjust their size, which is vital, as enough space is required for major upgrades described below.

You can read more about Burgage Plots on How to get new settlers? page of our guide.

If you plan a Plot that has a big enough yard/garden, you'll be able to build additional structures in their limits - the game will tell if such an option is available with a house and hammer icon appearing in the yard of the plot - Manor Lords: How to upgrade house? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide

If you plan a Plot that has a big enough yard/garden, you'll be able to build additional structures in their limits - the game will tell if such an option is available with a house and hammer icon appearing in the yard of the plot. There are two categories of additional yard structures (Extensions):

  1. Household - e.g. Chicken Coop or Apple Orchard. Villagers assigned to the Plot with such an Extension won't change their status and you'll still be able to assign them to any task. Remember, however, that they will spend a part of their day by working at the Extension, instead of e.g. building structures.
  2. Workshops - these Extensions are available once given Burgage Plot reaches level 2. These may be, for example, Bakery, Brewery, or Tailor's Workshop. The inhabitants of such a plot will automatically become Artisans, which makes them leave the pool of available families, as they devote themselves exclusively to work at the Extension. Remember to not create too many families of this type, as you may not have enough hands for basic actions such as building.

The important information here is that Extensions of this type produce many complex and processed goods that aren't available through other means and are needed for the development of the village. For example, only a certain type of Extension can produce Ale, which in turn is needed for the functioning of the tavern.

How to upgrade Brugage Plots?

Burgage Plots can also be upgraded to levels 2 and 3 - Manor Lords: How to upgrade house? - FAQ - Manor Lords Guide

Burgage Plots can also be upgraded to levels 2 and 3. Improved plots provide 1 region wealth each month for each family living there and unlock access to specialized extensions, such as a cobbler's workshop or a brewery. However, there are a number of rules that a plot must meet for the upgrade to be available.

To be able to upgrade a Plot, you need to meet several requirements divided into 3 categories:

  1. Amenities - include access to water (you can do this by building a well) and a church level, which you can build with 5 timber, 20 planks and 10 stones.
  2. Market Supply - the stalls should offer: fuel (produced by the woodcutter's lodge), food (at least two different types) and any material for clothes (leather, linen or yarn).

You will be informed that a given requirement has been fulfilled by a yellow diamond next to the requirement name in the Requirements tab of the building information window.

The maximum level of a Burgage plot is 3. Plots at the highest level provide 2 region wealth every month for each family living there, and become large enough to accommodate an additional family. As before, you must meet a number of requirements to improve them:

  1. Amenities - these include access to water, improving the church and building an inn with permanent access to ale - you will have to process barley into malt in the Malthouse and then brew ale from it in the Brewery Extension. You will obtain barley through farming or trading.
  2. Market Supply - the stalls should offer: fuel (produced by the woodcutter's lodge), food (at least two different types), any material for clothes (leather, linen or yarn) and any type of clothing (shoes, cloaks, clothes).
