Gran Turismo 7: System requirements and PS5 graphics modes Gran Turismo 7 guide, tips

This page of the Gran Turismo 7 guide contains information about the hardware requirements, technical issues, and available graphics modes on the PS5.

Last update: 04 April 2022

This page of the Gran Turismo 7 game guide contains information about system requirements and technical matters. You will learn about graphics modes, game performance on PS5, any possible bugs and issues that can occur in the game, and more.

Gran Turismo 7: PS4 and PS5 system requirements

  1. Unfortunately, Gran Turismo 7 requires a lot of free space on the hard drive. Depending on the console model, it will take up about 107-110GB on the disk. Unfortunately, unlike Gran Turismo Sport, it's impossible to lower the installation size by not installing some Scapes (landscapes for taking photos).
  2. GT7 requires a constant internet connection, as the game is always online. Unfortunately, this requirement still applies to the singleplayer career and isn't just limited to the multiplayer modes. Losing connection with the game servers will interrupt the current race or activity. There's no point in playing offline, because the game won't allow you to save your progress.
  3. An active PS subscription is required to compete in multiplayer. Fortunately, GT7's singleplayer content is much more diverse than in the previous installment and even without subscribing to PlayStation Plus, you won't feel the need to complain about the sheer amount of available races, challenges and single player trials. You'll also be able to progress in the game and collect credits without having to purchase a PS+ subscription.

Graphics modes on PS5

Although Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 5 technically has two graphics modes, in practice there's only one: Prioritize Frame Rate - Gran Turismo 7: System requirements and PS5 graphics modes - Annex - Gran Turismo 7 Guide

Although Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 5 technically has two graphics modes, in practice there's only one: Prioritize Frame Rate. It aims to keep a constant number of 60 frames (unfortunately, this is not always the case) at the cost of slightly lower graphics during races.

The second mode is Prioritize Ray Tracing. Unfortunately, it has one very serious limitation - ray tracing doesn't appear in GT7 during the actual races. It can only be activated in photo modes, during replays or, for example, when displaying car models or various demos when the game is left idle.

Bugs and technical issues

For most of the time, the animation in Gran Turismo 7 is smooth, both on PS4 and PS5 - Gran Turismo 7: System requirements and PS5 graphics modes - Annex - Gran Turismo 7 Guide

For most of the time, the animation in Gran Turismo 7 is smooth, both on PS4 and PS5. The main exception to this rule is the Trial Mountain Circuit. This is by far the most hardware-intensive location and also the least optimised, so there's a good chance you won't just experience minor game stutters but also more noticeable momentary lags.

There are three additional aspects that can lower the game's performance:

  1. Watching replays - Unfortunately, GT7 sometimes stutters during them, especially if there are multiple vehicles in the frame.
  2. Racing in the rain - water sprays caused by driving cars can, unfortunately, not only limit visibility, but also cause slight drops in animation.
  3. Races involving a large number of vehicles - this mostly depends on the selected track, but on hardware-intensive circuits, you will notice stuttering if 16-20 vehicles are taking part in the competition.

Gran Turismo 7 didn't have any major bugs on release date. Unfortunately, patch 1.06 added new bugs, including some that, in extreme cases, may prevent you from progressing the game or cause it to crash regularly. We can only hope that the next GT7 updates will remove these serious bugs.

While writing this guide, we hadn't experienced any issues with the Gran Turismo 7 servers, which appear to be very stable. There's no need to worry about the always online requirement causing issues.
