Last update: 06 April 2022

This page of the Gran Turismo 7 game guide contains the beginner's guide intended for people who are just starting their adventure with this game. The following guide includes tips on basic controls, completing career chapters, tuning cars, avoiding common mistakes, and more.

Don't rush to buy new vehicles

There is a multitude of interesting vehicles available in Gran Turismo 7, ranging from new cars to classics to very unique ones - Gran Turismo 7: Beginners guide - Basics - Gran Turismo 7 Guide

There is a multitude of interesting vehicles available in Gran Turismo 7, ranging from new cars to classics to very unique ones. You might feel a strong urge to buy them, but you should avoid making rash decisions so as not to waste credits. This is because you can get at least several dozen cars in the game for free. Cars are mainly earned by completing career mode chapters, but you can also earn them in other ways, such as by completing licenses and missions, and as prizes in ticket raffles (unfortunately, the chances of getting a car this way are slim).

The second reason to postpone purchases is that while advancing in career mode, you often get vehicles that will be useful during upcoming chapters. As a result, you will rarely need to buy something outside of this pool. You should save up credits to buy more expensive vehicles, which are unfortunately plentiful in the game - these include super and hypercars, Vision Gran Turismo concepts and sports cars in the Gr. 1-4 category. They will be useful to further build your collection and during multiplayer.

You can find a list of all vehicles that can be unlocked for free on the List of cars from rewards page.

Test out all the available cameras

There are 4 different camera modes available in Gran Turismo - Gran Turismo 7: Beginners guide - Basics - Gran Turismo 7 Guide

There are 4 different camera modes available in Gran Turismo. You might think that's not many, but most of them have at least some practical applications. Spend some time testing them out to learn about their advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes, a specific camera mode will be useful in a particular type of race, e.g. when visibility is hindered while driving at night or in heavy rain.

The bumper camera view is the best in our opinion, as the track is displayed in full screen and isn't obstructed by anything. Additionally, this mode provides you with a huge rear-view mirror on the screen. The cockpit camera is the most immersive, but unfortunately it can restrict visibility, especially if you are driving a car with a small windshield and wide A-pillars, as they make it difficult to take precise turns.

For more information about the available camera modes and our recommendations, check out the Selecting the optimal camera page.

Upgrade the performance and PP of your cars to have an easier time racing

As a reminder, PP is a parameter that describes the overall "performance" of a car - the higher the PP, the better your car will perform during a race - Gran Turismo 7: Beginners guide - Basics - Gran Turismo 7 Guide

As a reminder, PP is a parameter that describes the overall "performance" of a car - the higher the PP, the better your car will perform during a race. Each car has a "starting" PP parameter, but you can increase it by visiting the tuning shop and buying new parts.

There are two main types of races and championships in career mode:

  1. Competitions without a PP limit - these include a PP recommendation, but you can freely exceed it and use cars that are much faster and better than the recommended ones.
  2. Competitions with a PP limit - these are more tricky, because you will need to tune your car to get close to, but not over, the maximum PP limit. This means you'll need to plan out which parts to buy and get the most useful ones, while not over-tuning.

For more tips and tricks, check out the Tuning cars and their settings page.

Don't put off getting your B and A licences

The National B and National A licenses are two of the five available licence categories - Gran Turismo 7: Beginners guide - Basics - Gran Turismo 7 Guide

The National B and National A licenses are two of the five available licence categories. You will unlock the License Centre menu after reaching career mode menu 2. You should try to complete all the B and A license challenges even before it becomes required at certain points during career mode. First of all, obtaining the licenses will help you learn basic controls in the most common types of situations (various kinds of turns and vehicles with different drives). Additionally, you will be able to unlock 2 or 4 free vehicles (by obtaining 100% bronze and 100% gold), which may come useful in future challenges.

The IB, IA and Super licenses are optional and you don't need them to complete campaign mode. However, they might be useful to learn some of the game's more complex mechanics and improve your skills even more. This way, you'll also be able to you to unlock 6 more free cars. We recommend that you try to complete each of the challenges well before you finish career mode.

On the Licenses B and A page, you'll find an overview of the challenges of the two initial licenses, as well as information about bonus vehicles that you can unlock.

Circuit experience mode is perfect for learning new tracks

There is a large number of tracks available in GT7, many of which used to be exclusive to other installments of the series, so you will either experience them for the first time or remember them from previous Gran Turismo games - Gran Turismo 7: Beginners guide - Basics - Gran Turismo 7 Guide

There is a large number of tracks available in GT7, many of which used to be exclusive to other installments of the series, so you will either experience them for the first time or remember them from previous Gran Turismo games. For each track, the Circuit Experience mode is available, which can be selected while choosing the track from the globe.

Circuit experience mode allows you to learn individual sectors of a given track in order to memorise all the turns, work out the perfect racing path and learn the optimal braking points. After familiarizing yourself with the sectors, you can also run a timed lap and test your skills. Circuit experience mode is particularly useful for more difficult and longer tracks, and if you intend on playing multiplayer mode and face off against other people instead of the AI.

You will be able to check out Circuit experience mode once you reach menu 24 of career mode. We discussed this chapter in more detail on the Menu 21-30 page.
