The fourth installment in an overwhelmingly popular first-person shooter series from Infinity Ward. This time the developers from Encino, California, have decided to break away from the tradition of making World War 2 games and set the action of their new game in modern times. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s story features a conflict with Russian ultranationalist faction, led by an unpredictable individual named Imran Zakhaev. Players get to witness the events through the eyes of several soldiers, including members of the British SAS and US Marines. The main story campaign consists of a series of missions set in different parts of the world. Gameplay relies heavily on cinematic, scripted shooting sequences. In addition to the single player mode the game includes expanded online multiplayer. When it comes to technology, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is powered by IW Engine.

The next installment in a cult online fist person shooter series, which originated in the early 2000's as a Half-Life modification. This game was created by Valve Corporation, who purchased the rights to the massively popular mod and later developed its commercial editions. The core gameplay is built upon competition between two teams of players: terrorists and counter-terrorists. Eliminating opponents is rewarded with cash, which can be spent on new gear and weapons. There are four main game modes: Arm Race, Demolition, and two tournament varieties. The authors did not try to revolutionize the classic gameplay mechanics, mostly focusing on visual improvements to match modern standards. Most of the in-game maps are based on the original ones, and most of the changes relate do weaponry.

The next installment in the tactical shooter series Rainbow Six endorsed by the author Tom Clancy. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal Studio, known for bestsellers such as Watch_Dogs and the Assassin’s Creed franchise. The title is a spiritual successor to the previously announced Rainbow Six: Patriots, which was eventually canceled. The gameplay focuses on police special forces fighting terrorists, with emphasis on tactics and tactical position defense. Most missions take place in confined spaces, which – thanks to an advanced physics engine – can be completely destroyed. During combat, the two teams can shoot through or blow up walls, floors, and ceilings, as well as barricaded doors. Because of this, the situation on the battlefield changes dynamically, forcing the players to adjust their tactics and cooperate with teammates.

Similarly to the previous game, the story campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is linear and the numerous in-game events follow a predetermined course. Available missions let the players assume the role of several playable characters and visit different corners of the globe. As befits an FPS, the gameplay is based on dynamic shooting sequences. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was developed by Infinity Ward with the assistance from other development studios owned by Activision – e.g. Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games. The plot continues the action of the first two installments of the game. Players are presented with the further fates of the members of Task Force 141 as they try to eliminate the leader of the Russian Ultranationalists responsible for the outbreak of the international conflict. Developers draw on the well-proven formula employed by the previous installments, such as the spectacular, yet heavily-scripted single player campaign, dynamic shootouts and numerous multiplayer modes. The fourth generation of the IW Engine provides high-level audio-visuals.

The action of Door Kickers 2: Task Force North takes the players to the Middle East, where the player-controlled squad, comprising representatives of many special forces, follows the trace of a dangerous terrorist organization. One observes the action from a top-down perspective and experiences all the events in real time with the option to utilize the active pause system. Like the first installment, the game has been divided into two parts - equally important to carrying out a mission is proper preparation, which includes selecting units with adequate skills and dispatching them properly across the map. The creators introduced many improvements and novelties that make the whole experience even more realistic. Among these, one can find new pieces of gear, the option to operate under the cover of night, jumping through windows, and the new mechanics allowing one to group his units.

Enhanced version of one of the most popular online first-person shooters, which debuted in the year 2000. The new edition is one hundred percent faithful to the original concept, focusing entirely on skirmishes of two teams: terrorists and counter-terrorists. Just like it was in the original game, the choice of either of the sides is essential for both the objectives that you must reach as well as the equipment you can use for the job. However, some major changes were introduced to the technical side of the game, thanks to moving it to an advanced game engine called Source, which was created by Valve for the second installment in the Half-Life series. Due to that fact, all of the original maps gained in visual quality and level of detail, while the gameplay was enhanced by much improved physics and a variety of advanced effects that were lacking from the first release of the game. Counter-Strike: Source is distributed along with a similarly overhauled version of the Day of Defeat mod as well as the expanded multiplayer for Half-Life 2.

This time, the tasks you are challenged with include destroying a biological weapon storage facility and cracking down on a gang terrorizing a bank in the heart of London. Gameplay mechanics are very similar to the proven solutions that have been used throughout the series, emphasizing tactical planning. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six 3: Raven Shield offers some additional weapons and useful gadgets, as well as improved AI (of both enemies and your squad members). A tactical turn-based strategy game tackling the subject of modern terrorism, developed by Iron Sight. The Finish dev team was inspired by genre classics such as XCOM or the Jagged Alliance series. The action of End State takes place in Eastern Europe, where numerous gangs and private military organizations freely engage in criminal activities. The player takes command of a mercenary group that has to gather intelligence regarding the terrorist operations in the region, and then track down and eliminate its leaders. Our job is to recruit, train, and equip our employees, and assume direct control of them during each mission. The encounters are turn-based, while each person is limited by the amount of available action points. The key to success is the right use of covers and obstacles, as well as diverse tactics, from coordinated stealth actions, up to risky assaults supported by sniper fire.
