Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is one of the first three-dimensional productions on the market that combines the features of FPS with tactical elements. Prepared by Red Storm Entertainment studio, the title is based on the book Rainbow Six.
Plot
The turn of the 20th and 21st century. The growing terrorist threat is motivating NATO members to create an international Rainbow Six unit to counter threats around the world. It is headed by John Clark. The unit quickly gains an opportunity to test itself in combat conditions. Over time, it has become the only obstacle in the path of the sinister Phoenix Group, which is planning an attack on an unprecedented scale. The story presented in the game is based on the events described in the book Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy.
Mechanics
Rainbow Six is a three-dimensional FPS with extensive tactical elements. The authors have prepared a total of sixteen missions with different assumptions, which require a precise analysis of the situation, the selection of appropriate equipment, including weapons, camouflage and gadgets, and then the perfect implementation of the assumptions. The group's tasks include rescuing hostages, eliminating targets, disarming bombs and obtaining relevant data.
The player must select the right soldiers from all Rainbow Six members for the mission, and distribute the tasks among them. Different operators have different skills and perform better or worse in achieving the objectives set. During the mission, the player directs only one member of the group, leading a specific branch. The others move in accordance with established guidelines, implemented by artificial intelligence.
Production is characterised by a high level of difficulty. The game tries to faithfully simulate the behavior of weapons, most of which are able to eliminate the target with one or two missiles. An additional difficulty is the use of permadeath. Once killed a member of the unit dies forever and cannot be sent on further missions.
Game modes
In addition to the extensive training module and campaign mode, which presents the next complex missions, Rainbow Six also allows you to have fun with your friends over the Internet. The creators have prepared several fun options. These include traditional deathmatch and team deathmatch, as well as cooperation and joint implementation of various scenarios against artificial intelligence.
Technical aspects
Rainbow Six is a three-dimensional production whose authors tried to present the work of the anti-terrorism department as realistically as possible. To this end, they reproduced, among others, several types of weapons and uniforms used on real battlefields, as well as took care of the sound layer, including briefings, sounds of weapons and radio announcements.
