A combination of shooter and tactical strategy developed by Ubisoft for mobile devices. The story of Tom Clancy’s ShadowBreak is set in the near future, soon after a series of terrorist attacks. In response to that recent activity of the extremists, who also managed to take control of a large territory, an international organization is established with the aim of counteracting this threat.
Tom Clancy’s Shadowbreak is a hybryd of shooter and strategy game released for mobile platforms running on iOS and AND system. Developed by Ubisoft Halifax, the app is based on free-to-play financial model with optional microtransactions.
Plot
The story of Tom Clancy’s Shadowbreak is set in a near future, soon after the world’s nations fall victim to a series of coordinated terrorist attacks. The scale of those is so large that it makes it impossible for governments to react quickly enough. In effect, the terrorists and criminal groups responsible for the attacks manage to take control over a large territory and take local citizens hostage in order to secure themselves from any military counteractions.
In response to that, an international organization is established, whose aim is to use all means possible to eliminate the threat. The player assumes the role of a leader of one of this group’s military unit.
Mechanics
Released for iOS and AND, Tom Clancy’s Shadowbreak features PvP duels of two snipers aided by their squads.
As you eliminate targets from a distance, you observe the events from the protagonist’s eyes. Your character has a set place on the map – you cannot reposition him. Apart from these mechanics, which are standard for mobile sniping games, some tactical elements were added. In effect, you can command your squadmates, decide where to move them or which targets they should attack, all the while providing them with sniping support.
In practice, gameplay in Tom Clancy’s Shadowbreak revolves around duels of two snipers and the soldiers under their command. The characters of the two rival players are positioned on the far ends of the map, so the only way for one of them to win is to successfully move their squad near the enemy’s sniper nest.
In between the missions, you get to recruit new men and improve their abilities and gear.
