A continuation of the 2014 tactical strategy game developed by Killhouse Games, which recreates the routines of SWAT anti-terrorist units. The action of Door Kickers 2: Task Force North takes the players to the Middle East, where the player-controlled squad, comprising representatives of many special forces, follows the trace of a dangerous terrorist organization.
Door Kickers 2: Task Force North is a continuation of the 2014’s well-received tactical strategy game – Door Kickers that focuses on the operations carried out by the SWAT. Both installments have been developed by Romanian Killhouse Games. Like their debut project, the game described herein is now available on PC / Windows as well as the most popular mobile devices.
Plot
Door Kickers 2: Task Force North takes players to a slightly different setting than the one presented in the predecessor – here, the action takes place in the Middle East, where the special force unit controlled by the player has to track down a dangerous terrorist cell. The game features a much bigger scale, as one can lead not only the SWAT squads but a team comprising representatives of different special forces, such as the US Rangers, who have access to cutting-edge military technology.
Mechanics
In terms of the gameplay mechanics, Door Kickers 2 uses similar elements as its predecessor, offering a real-time tactical gameplay with an optional active pause. A player observes the action from the top-down perspective allowing him to see the entire mission area in the big picture, as well as carefully plan and coordinate further actions. The game has been divided into two parts – equally important to carry out a mission is the proper preparation, which includes selecting units with skills and equipment adequate to the mission they are about to start, and dispatching the properly on the map. After the preparation, a player can start the mission which can be carried out in many different ways, depending on preferred methods – one can choose to quickly attack the enemies counting on the element of surprise, or assume the stealth approach and complete the objective without drawing any unnecessary attention.
In comparison to the first installment, creators introduced many improvements and novelties that make the whole experience even more realistic and more focused on the tactical aspects. The number of available units has been increased along with all the available pieces of gear. During the game, a player can equip his units with night vision devices, reconnaissance drones, and tons of other items. Moreover, the game introduces unavailable in the first installment jumping through the windows and the option to operate under cover of the night (or in total darkness, should one decide turn off the lights). Door Kickers 2 delivers certain options that make squad managing much easier – a player can now group his units to move them more easily around the map.
Game modes
Unlike the previous installment that offered only single player mode comprising story campaign and missions for one player, Door Kickers 2: Task Force North introduces a cooperative mode as well as a competitive multiplayer mode.
Technical aspects
The PC, AND and iOS release of Door Kickers 2: Task Force North is based on a proprietary graphics engine that allowed for creating a prettier and more detailed setting. The game offers support to fan-made mods by introducing an enhanced version of the mission editing tool as well as access to some bits of the source code.
