No Rest for the Wicked is a fantasy action RPG. It was developed by Moon Studios, known for such games as Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.
Plot
The game is set on an island known as Isola Sacra. An ancient Pestilence has returned. A ruthless church figure, Madrigal Seline, makes use of the chaos caused by the plague to prove her piety. Her forces attack the local government - soon, local rebels join the conflict as well, plunging Isola Sacra into chaos.
The playable character is a Cerim, a holy warrior fighting the Pestilence. While battling the epidemic, we also end up involved in the political conflict.
Mechanics
No Rest for the Wicked is a top-down action RPG. The game focuses on real-time combat and character growth.
Combat is fast-paced and challenging, requiring good reflexes and precision. There are many different weapons to choose from, each type with different kinds of attacks. The player can also enchant their gear with runes and forge their own armor, adapting the protagonist to their playstyle.
Between battles, the player rests in the city of Sacrament, where they can buy a home and arrange it to their preferences. We can also spend our downtime on fishing and farming, gaining resources used to restore health and increase our stats.
Game modes
The game supports singleplayer and online co-op.
Technical aspects
The visuals are a strong suit of No Rest for the Wicked. The game's 2D graphisc retain the distinctive painterly artstyle of the studio's previous games. Combat looks rather intriguing as well.
