No Rest for the Wicked is slowly regaining the trust of players, but the developers don't want to rest on their laurels and have taken on an ambitious task.

The release of No Rest for the Wicked in early access could definitely have been better. However, this doesn't discourage Thomas Mahler. On the contrary, the CEO of Moon Studios stated that the team aims to turn "58% positive reviews" on Steam into 90% favorable reviews.

No Rest for the Wicked gains on Steam

The head of the studio accepted the challenge in an entry (via X). It could be noted with humor that the team has already achieved its first success because, since the publication of Mahler's declaration, No Rest for the Wicked has clearly gained on Steam. The game's reviews currently stand at 66% positive (68% according to SteamDB), gradually moving the title out of the "mixed" opinion category on Valve's platform.

This improvement is partly the result of the first two hotfixes that hit the game last weekend. Both patches were warmly received. Not only because the team listened to the players' opinions and made changes according to their wishes (or at least most of them), but also because of the pace at which these improvements were introduced.

Of course, as is usually the case, not all improvements worked according to plan (which Mahler himself admitted; via X). Some people complain about unnecessary gameplay facilitations, but all in all, players appreciated the efforts of Moon Studios. Especially since the third hotfix is already on the way, as well as support for the TV Mode of the GeForce Now service and changes in the Cermi Crucible dungeon (via X).

Be like a boss in Dark Souls

In a separate place (more precisely: in an interview for The Edge magazine; via GamesRadar), Mahler referred to one of the aspects of No Rest for the Wicked, which - as the devs promised - is to "revolutionize" action RPGs. It's about the top-down view, which, according to the head of Moon Studios, allowed the developers to implement "crazy moves" that were reserved for bosses in Dark Souls.

For instance, he mentioned one of the most renowned bosses from the expansion to the first installment of the FromSoftware series - a knight with numerous incredible attacks at his disposal. In theory, the player can use some of them after forging a weapon from the soul of this opponent, but it must be admitted that even then our character doesn't perform such acrobatics as the boss. In NRftW, the developers aim to eliminate such restrictions.

On the topic of "souls" - Mahler also mentioned a system of random loot from chests. Are these and other elements truly enough to consider it a revolution in aRPG? Perhaps, but for now, the devs need to focus on ensuring that No Rest for the Wicked fully regains the trust of the players. Although, judging by the first few days, it seems that Moon Studio is on the right track to deal with this challenge.
