No Rest for the Wicked Will Not Compete With MMORPG. Hotfix 5 Is Now Available
No Rest for the Wicked received its fifth update in a week, and another hotfix could hit the game tomorrow. The developers also addressed the topic of competing with MMOs.
No Rest for the Wicked has received another major early access update. In theory, it's "just" the fifth hotfix released by Moon Studios in a week, but it seems the company's CEO was correct in predicting that it would be a huge patch (via Steam / official forum).
Hotfix 5 addresses a significant number of issues related to quests, the incorrect appearance of special mobs and bosses, and player characters falling out of the game world, among other things, just like the previous updates. The loophole related to some missions has also been fixed. Additionally, hotfix 5 introduced a ton of new optimization fixes.
There were also a few improvements related to balance. From now on, parrying with shields also reduces the stamina bar. This is a kind of follow-up to the fix in the previous update, which implemented the same change, but only for weapons. Apparently, the team had doubts about this modification (after all, some fans aren't convinced that it's a good decision).
Unfortunately, contrary to what we expected from Thomas Mahler's (head of Moon Studios) "teasers," the game hasn't yet received either control change options or ultra-wide screen support. However, it's possible that we won't have to wait long for these new features.
The sixth update for No Rest for the Wicked should appear tomorrow (via Gennadiy Korol, co-founder of Moon Studios, on X). The devs aren't showing any signs of slowing down. It seems they want to quickly overcome the challenge they set for themselves a few days ago.
On a side note: Thomas Mahler is still actively involved in social media. In recent posts, he confirmed that No Rest for the Wicked won't compete in the MMORPG market - the option to play with friends will be available, but the dev doesn't want the immersion to be spoiled by typical mechanics of this genre (more specifically: the lack of impact of defeating a boss on the game world; via X). Apparently, most players agree with this approach, judging by the survey results.
Mahler also confirmed that the game will include an option to try out equipment before purchasing it.
