Basic tips - How to start in Fortnite: Battle Royale? Tips and tricks for Fortnite: Battle Royale Beginner's Guide
Last update: 24 September 2018
Fortnite: Battle Royale is another game drawing from the mechanics of Battle Royale games. However, the game is much faster than in PUBG and additionally, each building on the bap can be destroyed with a wide array of weapons, so "camping" has been restricted to a minimum. You can play Battle Royale alone, with another player for two players, or a whole squad and conquer the map as a team of four.
After you start the game, you receive one of several random characters that do not affect the game in any way. This element is purely cosmetic. After you have selected the game mode, you will travel to the starting isle, where ninety-nine other players will be waiting for the BattleBus - a means of transport to the actual arena.
From the very beginning, you will have access to a huge map and it is up to you where you want to land. The landing zone should provide you with your starting gear (a weapon), thanks to which you will be able to continue exploration. First try to get familiar with the map and in each successive match land in a different spot. Spots marked with location names are the most popular. Here, you will find a lot of various weaponry, but you will have to fight for it.
After you have found crates, Meds and weapons, you will learn about the incoming storm. Simply put, storms are circles appearing on the map within certain time intervals. Staying in the zone outside of a circle means your death, so you cannot stay there for long. First, damage you will be taking from storms is low, this is why you will survive, even if you do not make it into the circle in time.
After a while, damage taken will skyrocket (up to 5 HP/sec), which is why you will either have to use Meds, in spite of full health (100 HP), or you will die and the game will end. While exploring the map, try to assess how much time it will take to get from point A to point B, by using the information of the narrowing circle under the minimap. This way, you will avoid unnecessary damage during the storm. Storm circles will be getting smaller and smaller, up to the moment when there is the last man standing.
