The Forest: Sanity The Forest Guide
Last update: 28 December 2022
Sanity is one of the several parameters that describe the player character in The Forest. It describes the state of mental health of the main character - the lower it gets, the crazier the character becomes. This is also the only parameter in the game that is associated with access to a specific group of constructions - if the level of sanity will go above 90%, you will not have access to the Effigy tab, where you can find effigies that are used to scare off enemies.
How to check Sanity
To check the level of Sanity, you need to open the Survival Guide with the "B" button and head to the Stats tab. There, aside from other stats describing your character, you will find the level of Sanity, shown in a percentage value.
How to increase Sanity?
To increase Sanity you can perform the following actions:
- Listen to music (Cassette Player). Each second of this activity increases the Sanity by 0.01 points.
- Sitting on a bench, chair or couch. Each second of this activity increases Sanity by 0.15 points.
- Sleeping in bed. Each hour of sleep increases Sanity by 0.75 points.
- Eating fresh, non-human meat. Each portion of meat increases Sanity by 1 point.
How to decrease Sanity?
To decrease Sanity (to, for instance, gain access to the Effigy tab) you can perform the following actions:
- Spending time in caves. Each second spent in a cave decreases Sanity by 0.001 points.
- Eating body parts of killed cannibals. Each time you do so, Sanity will drop by 3 points.
- Cutting off body parts of cannibals. Each body part you cut off (but not each strike on the body) decreases Sanity by 1 point.
- Killing cannibals. Each kill decreases Sanity by 0.5 points.
Impact of Sanity on the gameplay
At the moment (version 1.0), Sanity has no impact on the gameplay (aside from blocking access to the Effigy tab). You can find information in the Internet that the character will start hallucinating if the Sanity drops sufficiently, but those are, for the moment, only rumors.
