Farming Simulator 19: Chaff Farming Simulator 19 Guide and Tips
Last update: 04 May 2020
In Farming Simulator 19, the only usage for chaff is to turn it into silage. You can do that by using special (and expensive) machines. The whole process also requires a lot of work... Is this even profitable at all?
Forage harvester and a semi-trailer
Chaff can be received from almost any grain or grass - you need to use a Forage harvester. Grass, hay, grains or corn - everything must be collected with the right attachment. Also, this harvester doesn't have a container - you need to drive a tractor next to it or attach a sugarcane trailer made by Randon (you can find it in Sugarcane technology tab). Besides this trailer, you can also attach Agroliner HDK 302, however, its capacity is too small to what you harvest.
Processing into silage
Chaff must be stored in a silo - build it on your parcel or use those located near a Biogas Plant (you need to purchase its parcel).
Put chaff into a silo, tamp and cover - wait about 24 hours to get chaff. Load it on a semi-trailer by using a front loader with a shovel or fork. Sell silage at a selling point (the price depends on what is happening on the market) or in a Biogas Plant (the price is always the same).
- Tip 1: you can feed silage to your cows. However, the amount of silage collected with a forage harvester and the amount of work put into it are all aimed at selling it in large quantities.
- Tip 2: the amount of silage is the same as grass/hay/chaff you have stored in a silo/bale.
- Buy a Biogas Plant and a large loader,
- Transport chaff right into a silo in a Biogas Plant,
- Sell silage by transporting it with a loader right to a tank,
- Try to get chaff from corn. You can also get it from grains or mowed grass.
Sale and profitability
To maximize your profits from chaff, you have to:
1,000l of chaff will give you $500 at a Biogas Plant (the price is the same regardless of which difficulty level you chose). Your profit is easy to estimate. Also:
- 1 ha of grass will give you about 60,000l that can be turned into silage,
- 1 ha of any grain gives you about 45,000l of silage - this option isn't profitable,
- 1 ha of corn gives you about 135,000l of silage (the attachment for corn is wider).
Silage can be a good and stable source of profit. However, it can get boring fast, and it requires a lot of money as a starting capital.
