ESO: Skill Points - how to get them? ESO guide, tips
Last update: 27 May 2020
This page of our guide to The Elder Scrolls Online explains how to earn Skill Points. Skill points are required to buy and improve active and passive abilities. There are several methods of acquiring skill points in TESO, and by accumulating more of them, your character can advance faster. Below you can also find a hint on how to reallocate skill points.
- Character advancement and leveling up
- Skyshards
- Public dungeons
- Rewards from quests
- Advancements of Alliance Rank
- Reallocating skill points - how to do it?
Character advancement and leveling up
The most obvious way to earn Skill Points is to advance to higher levels of experience. As a standard, 1 Skill Point is awarded for each level up. Only in case of milestone level ups (like , reaching Level 10) you may get more Skill Points.
Skyshards
Another very good way to acquire more Skill Points is to find Skyshards. They are one of the collectibles / secrets available in TESO. You can find the crystals both on the surface and while exploring dungeons (just 1 crystal can be found in every dungeon).
Crystals lying on the surface emit a column of light and are easier to spot from a greater distance.
On the Zone Guide screen, you can easily see how many crystals can be found and how many you have already located.
What's really important is that a single Skyshard doesn't mean anything yet. The game rewards you each time after you collect 3 crystals - only then you will receive 1 Skill Point.
Public dungeons
Exploration of public dungeons can also grant you skill points. As these underground areas are usually characterized by a high level of difficulty due to powerful monsters which inhabit them, it is worth trying to explore them in a group, that is, together with other players.
Rewards from quests
Skill Points can also be obtained in form of rewards for completing quests. This mainly applies to selected story quest chains. A Skill Point can be awarded after you complete a quest, that is, while having the final conversation with an important NPC related to this particular quest.
Advancements of Alliance Rank
This category concerns PvP, that is, battles between players. You can increase your Alliance Rank by participating in Alliance War activities and by participating in Battlegrounds. As you advance, you will be able to earn Skill Points.
Reallocating skill points - how to do it?
If you come to the conclusion that you've made big mistakes in character development, you can reallocate skill points and attribute points, but you have to pay for it.
The first option consists in visiting a Shrine. Shrines can be found in Grahtwood (Valenwood region), Mournhold (Deshaan region), Rimmen (Elsweyr region), Vivec City (Vvanderfell region) and Wayrest (Stormhaven region). To reset Attributes (Rededication), Skills or Morphs you must pay with coins by making "voluntary" donations. In order to reset each Attribute or Skill point, 50 gold pieces must be spent. The further you advance in the game, the more this process will cost you.
The second option is to pay with Crowns for resetting Skill Points. As a reminder, Crown can be purchased with real money or received monthly thanks to an active ESO Plus subscription.
You can purchase the Attribute Respecification Scroll to reset attributes and Skill Respecification Scroll to reset skills. Each of these scrolls costs 700 Crowns and you can use them at any level of experience. The scrolls are located in the Utility tab of the Crown Store, Respecs section.
