4. The Last of Us: Remastered

What's that about? An old cynic and a snotty teenager travel through a virus-ravaged world.

Hmm... if, after counting the points, the fourth-best exclusive title on PlayStation 4 remains, according to us, a simple remaster of the game from PlayStation 3, then maybe these exclusives are not at all as good as it seems? No, that's not it. The Last of Us is just such a successful production, and even while being essentially a seventh-generation title, it still beats most games released in the next console era.

After years of focusing on Nathan's rather light-hearted adventures, in The Last of Us Naughty Dog has gone much darker, showing the ruins of a world decimated by a plague that turns humans into mindless beasts. In such a grim reality, Joel, a cynical man still struggling with the demons from his past, undertakes the task of transporting a cargo that can change the world – Ellie, a young teenager showing immunity to the virus.

The writers of the Last of Us drew handfuls of their inspirations from classics like The Road by Arthur McCarthy, building their game not upon the basis of action, but on the brilliantly outlined relationships between the two protagonists. In the course of this adventure, we see a gradually and naturally born bond between a man battered by life and a haughty teenager. The dramas of other people that Joel and Ellie meet during their journey further increase the emotional load of this production – up to a great, memorable finale.

Although the plot layer is the driving force behind The Last of Us, the gameplay was executed flawlessly. The game offers fairly linear levels in which players have to solve puzzles and sneak between enemies (both virus-possessed mutants and hostile humans), and in extreme cases also engage in gunfights. Since the action takes place in a post-apocalyptic reality, it is not easy to find any resources here. Thus, crafting is highly important, as it allows you to create valuable tools from objects found nearby.

HONORABLE MENTION – PLAYLINK

With each new gaming hardware, Sony does not forget about the people who use consoles to get their house parties started. With this in mind, PlayStation 4 got a series of PlayLink games, allowing players to participate in the game without using traditional controllers, only their smartphones. Thanks to this idea, we do not have to pay for several Dualshock controllers in order for up to six people to be able to play at the same time. The titles available in this series present different genres and quality level, but there are some real gems among them. For example, we highly recomment That's You! that tests our knowledge of our close ones, together with Knowledge is Power, which tests the already more common knowledge of our fellow party attendants.
