What's that about? Nathan Drake travels all over the world in search of trouble, artifacts, and villains reckless enough to get in his way.
Naughty Dog's three games for PlayStation 3 featuring the adventures of Nathan Drake were among the best productions released for the seventh generation of consoles. The second and third parts of the series are still very good and can provide a lot of good entertainment, and even Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, although it has aged noticeably worse, still copes well.
We can see this quite easily because The Nathan Drake Collection consists of remastered versions of the first three installments of Uncharted – the aforementioned Drake's Fortune, its continuation Among Thieves, with Drake's Deception closing the set. Although these remasters were deprived of the multiplayer modules present in the originals, they feature better visual support and minor improvements in the gameplay mechanics.
Gameplay in all three titles roughly revolves around exploration across various geographical zones and mostly uninhabited locations, in which we climb on the rock shelves and ledges, solve environmental puzzles, and fight with hordes of enemies itching to lay their hands on the same artifacts. So – the spitting image of what we have in the new Tomb Raider games, which, as it happens, were strongly inspired by the Uncharted series (which in turn took a lot of its ideas from the earlier adventures of Lara Croft - the wheel has closed).
But also, the plot is extremely important here. Nathan Drake is accompanied by a plethora of well-written characters who instantly win the sympathy of the players. Listening to the characters joshing with each other is a pleasure by itself, the same way as, maybe not very innovative, but perfectly directed cutscenes, that make the Uncharted series is a real Indiana Jones of our time.
