Nero Arsenal in Devil May Cry 5 Devil May Cry 5 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 18 March 2019
Nero is the first character in the Devil May Cry 5 story. He mostly uses his sword and offers a high variety of attacks and combos. His equipment comprises:
The Red Queen Sword
The Red Queen Sword - a special sword additionally equipped with Exceed - press E button 3 times and hold it to charge the weapon and prepare it for the next attack that will use the Exceed ability. The sword is Nero's only weapon, as both the gun and the Devil Breaker are more gadgets than weapons.
Blue Rose Pistol
Blue Rose Pistol - an auxiliary weapon for ranged combat. You can charge the shots by holding RMB (release it after the weapon lights up to deal more damage). The ammunition is not limited, nonetheless, this gun is not powerful. It is worth using to attack distant enemies and finishing them, attacking flying foes, and, most importantly, joining combos after performing a sequence of sword attacks and repelling an enemy.
Devil Breakers
Devil Breakers - special weapons used by Nero. He uses them as an arm prosthesis with unique abilities. As you progress through the story, you will unlock new Breakers, each one with different features and effects, e.g. allowing you to deal continuous damage even after you get away from your foe, or after you are pushed back and your attack sequence broken. Breakers have several additional features:
- They wear off - you can purchase them when upgrading your character or find them throughout the in-game world when playing as Nero. If you get hit when using a breaker, it is destroyed.
- Detonating the Breaker - press Z key to getting rid of the breaker and cause a major explosion dealing significant damage. Of course, it is not worth doing if you don't have any spare Breakers.
- You can have up to 3 Breakers. You can store more by purchasing red orbs.
Wire
Nero can use his wire (direction + MMB) to pull an enemy towards him or to pull himself towards an enemy (if the opponent is too heavy to be moved). The wire is also sometimes used when exploring locations - however, the range upgrades are not required - level 1 will suffice to cling onto any ledge).
Exceed
Nero's sword has a special function called Exceed. You can "charge" the sword (check the icon in the upper left corner of the screen) to deal more damage. To chargé the sword, press and hold E for a brief moment - you have to do that three times. Your next move will deplete Exceed. Buy upgrades for Exceed to unlock more charging levels (2 and 3).
Exceed in this form isn't comfortable nor efficient. Exceed-MAX allows you to charge the sword when you press the Exceed button right after your sword hits the target. In this version, Exceed is great in fights with more powerful enemies or bosses, especially when you get used to charging Red Queen after every attack.
