Don't aim at the head, target the limbs instead - this tactics works for most foes.
Plasma cutter that you find at the beginning of the game is the best weapon around. Be sure to upgrade it regularly in Upgrade benches with Power Nodes, focusing on damage (DMG).
Upgrade your suit (RIG), focusing primarily on toughness.
Every time you find schematics for a new suit - buy it! Locations of the schematics are mentioned in the walkthrough.
Sometimes running is the best solution. Try slowing down your enemy with stasis and run into another room.
Most items you find on the enemies' bodies are randomly generated and adjusted to the weapons you're carrying.
Try to explore every square inch of the ship and you'll never fall short on ammo or money. Enemies do not respawn so take your time collecting items before returning to the tram.
