In Dave the Diver, you can easily lose a fight and drown or get eaten. This page of the guide answers the question what does Dave's death mean and is it permanent, as well as how to reduce the risk of dying.

When can the hero die?

The hero can die in two ways:

1. Drowning - It happens after you run out of oxygen and have no protection against this type of death (e.g. using the Charm talisman).
2. Getting attacked by a fish or touching a dangerous element of the environment (e.g. spikes) - There is no health bar on the screen. After receiving enough damage, Dave will die.

1. Death in the game is not final and Dave can be saved. The hero returns to the boat and can resume the game later that day.
2. Unfortunately, death comes with a penalty. You will lose all collected items except for one, which you can save from getting destroyed. You should always choose the most valuable item from the inventory, for example, a rare species of fish or a valuable artifact that can be sold for a high price at the Cobra Shop.

How to die less often?

1. Keep an eye on the current oxygen supplies and act in advance if their levels are low. Refill oxygen or if that's not possible, get to the nearest Escape Pod to return to the surface.
2. Beware of aggressive species of fish. The safest way to kill them is to use a firearm, although this will lower the quality of the trophy obtained. You can also avoid them from a safe distance or run away when they notice you. Avoid the charges of predators by quickly changing your direction of movement.
3. Be careful in places with sea currents. They can easily push the hero onto spikes or somewhere where it will be harder to reach the surface. Avoid the currents or quickly swim through them once they calm down.

You can also save the game before each dive, but this is only justified if:

1. You want to complete a mission objective that has a time limit. Wasting a given dive can make it difficult to complete the quest.
2. You want to finish the whole game without a single death.
