Rome is the only civilised faction in Rome II: Caesar in Gaul - Characteristics - Faction - Rome - Total War: Rome II - Caesar in Gaul - Game Guide and Walkthrough

Rome is the only civilised faction in Rome II: Caesar in Gaul. It starts the game with two provinces under control: Insubria and Liguria, as well as one region in Narbonensis, which unfortunately is in a rather bad position - Narbo Martius is separated from the motherland with territories belonging to the Gauls and the Greeks, so for some time it is at the mercy of fate (or your leadership skills).

Initially, Rome is in state of war with the Halvetii. However, eliminating this opponent is just a matter of a couple of turns. Lack of proper military buildings, which would enable you to quickly create a strong army, is a bigger problem. Unfortunately, you have to put a lot of hard work into all the provinces to make them productive.

Starting bonuses

  • Romanisation: +2 Roman culture spread
  • Exemplary Civilization: +10% morale when fighting in neutral or enemy territories
  • Cultural Aversion: +25% unrest for the presence of foreign cultures

Playing as Rome in Caesar in Gaul generally comes down to forcing Roman culture down the throats of all neighbouring tribes. Exemplary Civilization bonus is a great help for mercenary Celtic troops, who usually have rather low basic morale - so this is useful for quickly expanding your territory in early game, when you have not yet built Roman "war machine" made of several thousands of legionaries. Romanisation allows you to quickly convert the barbarians to the only right culture, thus reducing the penalty from Cultural Aversion.
